My sides. I don't even want those posts deleted because they are hilarious to look at.

does that mean you're ok with fma being called 'generic'?

The "fighting" part is just way too obvious to even bother with the "generic" part.

Yes. But FMA:B is even more generic.

bob_bob is the winner here as you all fell for the extremely obvious trollbait hook, line, and sinker.

Don't say that to me, it's redundant. You should have said that to bob_bob at the start.

It is reasonable to give people the benefit of doubt. This may sound surprising to you, but not everybody is trying to attempt on every single statement. Some people simply hold uncommon and controversial opinions.

hmmm just finished watching it and it's horrid compared to FMA, a lot of the real gut wrenching moments of FMA did not had any impact here
Hughes death had us moping the floor with tears, in this one it felt like... meh
the other deaths as well, the homunculus felt like generic mobs

the "deaths" are supposed to have an impact but by that time i was watching the sides of the screen "yeah yeah die already, next one...", it's also quite heavy on psychological bullshit monologues that put you to sleep

I finished watching this and I have to say that some things I wouldn't understand if I hadn't seen the first one. It seems to be missing out some parts, making me think that it would make someone who hasn't watched the original question some characters, locations etc.

I must confess, i still havent seen the second half of first adaptation. Just couldnt be bothered with, by default, inferior quality of the plot.

Everything was inferior in the old one, save it for maybe the pacing of the first couple of episodes.
I saw that first, but never left an impact in me, while this one is a huge joy and masterfully produced as well.

Ooh, I've finally watched this anime.
It was very good but.. *thunder* ..not a masterpiece for me as I expected.

Maybe it's because I watched a few eps of the "original" version first.
I kinda preferred its bleak & dark atmosphere and slower pace! (sadly it's basically obsolete, due to the allegedly messy invented second half).
The new version had too many silly comical parts happening right in the middle of tense/dramatic moments or dealt with them too quickly for my tastes.
I get that this was more similar to the manga, but still..

Anyway, the quality of this anime was exceptional and I still quite enjoyed watching it, expecially after the main story began to unfold.

Other comments:

- I never like too much when enemies switch sides too easily (chimera guys, Barry the chopper).
- the fights in the anime were kinda brief and not that epic (maybe the best one was vs Sloth?). And the renowned Fullmetal bros were quite bad at them.
- why did the people from Xing come to Amestris to look for immortality.. how did they know about it, since it was a big secret?
Also what would they have done with it? Giving it to the emperor would have defeated their purpose.
- the moment when everyone stopped Roy from killing "grub" Envy didn't make much sense.
- King Bradley was way too calm for being a personified sin of Wrath..
Also, what was his power exacly, other than the usual regen? His human host was already an exceptional fighter.
I thought that his sword was an extension of him, but nope, it was just a normal weapon instead.. so how did he cut a tank bullet with it exactly?
- damn, not even a kiss among all the couples at the end, come on!

I believe enough has been said about this series, so let me just list a few reasons why I don't think it's the best anime, 10/10, or even better than FMA1:
1.Plot Holes
Every anime has them (well, maybe except my fav comedies, but it's not possible to have plot holes when you don't have a standard plot to begin with...) so I don't want to bash FMAB too hard for that, but considering it should be the best anime ever -> that's a title/level where you should not have them, right?
a) Hohenheim's flashback with Homunculus in flask - not only it starts from a weird point when the Homunculus already exists and just tells Slave 23 that he was created from him without any further explanation which was needed here, but it continues with skipping what I feel are the most important parts like what homunculus did or give to the Hohenheim after they talked that Hohenheim was able to become so prominent AND even more importantly who the hell was that 'teacher' guy who was just holding Homunculus as Hohenheim trained? What was his role? How they all managed to get so close to the king? Maybe it was self-explanatory and I am just a dumbo, but I feel like this flashback should have been if even a little longer and explain more. This way, it just felt like authors saying "Hey, this is just some obligatory quick dump so the bad guy has a backstory, no matter how weak...
b) Roy Mustang learning masterful flame alchemy - not sure if it could be called a plot hole, but considering Mustang's big role in the series, it should have been explained better than just scratching the surface

2.Too soft
Again, I don't need my anime to be dark, sad or have main characters fall in it, but with such a setting and world-building as FMAB has, it would be suitable if it was a bit harsher and darker. Especially:
a) Honda and Mustang should have been killed by Lust, or at least Honda - that would catapult the scene with Mustang burning her to a much higher dimension
b) Lan Fan should have been killed (by Bradley?) - again, it would give Ling Yao much greater reason to be so mad and driven
-her loosing a hand and becoming much stronger after that is just cliche kiddy bullshit
c) the homunculi should have been mercilessly wiped and not pitied and given a human-like death and touching scenes like if "they were also good guys after all"
ALL OF THEM - Bradley, Greed, ENVY!!!
d) the whole Alphonse bullshit..
e) basically nothing happened to no-one in the end, only important character who died was Hughes and that was in like fcking 5th episode

3. The End
so...it was that easy, yeah?
All Edward had to do all that time was to decide: "Fuck Alchemy." and the main point of the series was solved
And everybody was like: "Yeah, that's a perfect ending to the anime called Fullmetal ALCHEMist."
Am I missing something?

I better stress it again to not be lynched: I listed most of that stuff just to emphasize why it’s not 10/10 or the best anime ever for me like it’s for so many people here and especially on MAL, but I certainly wouldn’t judge it as a bad or mediocre anime. It’s still very much above average and above most of the titles I have seen. I understand why so many people love it. Objectively, it’s reaaally good – the pacing is almost perfect, storyline is clear and they follow it without unnecessarily straying anywhere. It has big variety of likeable and mostly down-to-earth characters so almost anybody can choose their own favorite, it has very straightforward end etc etc. BUT it just didn’t click for me… I was not able to find that special something that I would excessively like in it: no super strong moment, no character that would make every scene and situation better, no stunning reveal that would left me with my mouth open for minutes…nothing that would literally send chills down my spine…nothing that I would remember for many years to come…
