An interesting engraved map of the part of the ancient world showing the area of current day Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Publishers imprint beneath dated 1807. 11 x 8 3/4 inches. Original outline and wash hand colouring. Fine clean condition with good margins. Straight from the atlas and not previously sold as a single map.

THE KINGDOM PERSIA

A fine engraved 17th century map of the country. The title cartouche with the name of John Speed appears in the centre at the top of the map flanked by inset views of Isfahan, Ormus, Tabriz and Gilan. Down the two sides of the map is a total of eight panels each showing a costumed figures. The scale appears beneath a decorative cartouche and bears the name of the publisher George Humble dated 1626. Original centre fold. Description of The Kingdom of Persia in English on verso. Uncoloured. 19 3/4x 15 1/2 inches. Good clean crisp condition. Good blank margins. I have seen specimens of this map with much smaller plank margins.The map has just been taken from the atlas and therefore not sold previously as a single map.
