MIHAIL KOGALNICEANU AIR BASE, Romania -- The 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, cased its colors, here, Aug. 30.
The ceremony highlighted the Fort Stewart, Georgia, based unit's commitment to the United States' allies and partners, fellow service branches, and dedication to Army traditions.
Maj. Gen. John Gronski, deputy commanding general for Army National Guard, U.S. Army Europe, was the officiating officer for the ceremony. Col. Lee Ellis, director, Black Sea Area Support Team; and Command Sgt. Maj. Walter Tagalicud, division command sergeant major, 3rd Infantry Division also attended the ceremony.
The 3rd Infantry Division Soldiers have been in Europe as one of U.S. Army Europe's regionally allocated forces since April in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve. This is the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team's third rotation and the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment's second rotation to Europe since March 2015.
Atlantic Resolve is a U.S.-led effort in Eastern Europe that demonstrates U.S. commitment to the collective security of NATO and enduring peace and stability in the region.
While in the U.S. European Command area of operation, the battalion completed four NATO operations, two gunnery rotations, numerous multinational combined arms live fire training events, and the enhancement of interoperability and readiness in the region.
