As America approaches her 244th birthday, we continue to confront unprecedented challenges both at home and abroad. As always, our Army is on point, safeguarding our Nation and leading the way in solving complex problems. What you do every day ensures the United States will endure as a beacon of democracy and hope throughout the world. Thank you for your service.
During these uncertain times, risk management remains very important. Ultimate responsibility for your personal safety once again lies wholly with you as our installations gradually emerge from COVID-19 restrictions. Whether it’s taking precautions against the spread of coronavirus or making plans for a long-overdue move or vacation, deliberately assessing potential hazards and implementing mitigation measures will help ensure you complete every activity healthy, safe and ready for the next mission. Just taking a few minutes to ask yourself, “What are the three riskiest things I am about to do and how do I mitigate them?” is all it takes!
For the first time in recent memory, this year the Army experienced zero fatalities or Class A mishaps over Memorial Day weekend. I have no doubt we can repeat that achievement this Independence Day with careful planning and continuous risk management. Please use the tools available at https://safety.army.mil to assist you in your journeys.
