Avanade general manager Laura Malcolm has taken the reins of Datacom Australia following the departure of Alex Coates.

Based in Datacom’s Sydney office, Malcolm’s appointment was the end result of an “extensive” recruitment search following Coates’ departure in August to take up the role of Interactive CEO.

Malcolm worked with Avanade for 10 years before leaving in September and being replaced by Carla Ramchanda as CEO.

Her experience in IT companies goes back more than two decades, having also previously worked at Oracle, Capgemini and IBM, among other businesses.

Datacom Group CEO Greg Davidson said Malcolm’s experience “will be a huge asset” to the company as it continues to expand its Australian presence.

“Laura has a wealth of experience spanning leadership roles and sales, pre-sales, consulting, strategy and transformation roles,” he said.

“She also has deep technology and consulting expertise, spanning a range of industry sectors and markets, which gives her a strong foundation to lead our team of more than 2,500 people in Australia.

“One of the deciding factors in appointing Laura was that her own values are strongly aligned with our Datacom values – she believes in building customer-centric, talented and inclusive teams, with a strong focus on culture and belonging.”
