Institutionalising knowledge and professional development

ASEAN-ACT is committed to strengthening the knowledge and skills of counter-trafficking practitioners through a systematic institutional approach.

This project aims to support ASEAN and ASEAN Member States with utilising and building on the wealth of existing counter-trafficking materials and training assets. This includes supporting national trainers and existing justice sector training institutions to strengthen their policy and training to integrate victim rights and gender equality, disability and social inclusion.

One of the ways we will achieve this is by supporting partners to identify capacity development needs around a specific policy, new legislation or reform agenda.

Launching of a new training facility in Thailand

Over the past two years, Thailand and Australia has worked steadily to progress the establishment of the Counter-Trafficking in Persons Centre of Excellence, starting with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding to formalise commitment from both countries. This was followed by a scoping study, supported by ASEAN-ACT, which assessed the adequacy of training provided to counter trafficking actors at both national and sub-national levels.
