It’s a ways out, but Mercedes is working diligently on a new version of the SLK for 2012.
Spy shots today show the roadster during testing, and unfortunately, it’s heavily clad. But this car historically has been one of our favorites--a nice blend of performance and luxury--and we’re anxiously counting the years until its arrival.
From these shots we see big wheels, dual exhaust and curious taillights, though any re-stylings are buried beneath the plastic covers.
The SLK is the entry-level car (relatively speaking) for Mercedes’ potent lineup of two-seaters. The first generation ran from 1997 to 2004, and the second generation followed for the 2005 model year.
It received a moderate update for 2008, including a restyled grille and front and rear fascia. The motor in the SLK350 was boosted to 300 hp.
