“Nature runs on sunlight, uses only the energy it needs, fits form to function, recycles everything, rewards cooperation, banks on diversity, demands local expertise, curbs excess from within and taps the power of limits.” - Janine M. Benyus

My name is Annie Tempest. I grew up in a tiny mountain town in Colorado and my upbringing centered around playing in nature. I feel happiest when I am running around outside and when I am not working or in school I am usually skiing, trail running, backpacking, or fly fishing. My love for nature inspires how I want to participate in the apparel industry. As a former educator, I love engaging with the learning process and I see the natural world as an incredible teacher. I am inspired by nature's ability to create circular systems that enrich their participants and create abundance. I am excited about exploring different approaches to the existing apparel industry systems all across the lifecycle of clothing. My interests include thinking about new ways to design and consider materials at the beginning of a new product's life that will allow it to be part of a system that is regenerative, instead of harmful. At the same time, I am fascinated by coming up with creative ways to use what we already have - to repair and remake and celebrate the previous lives of textiles. My vision is to use these goals to foster community and to find ways to bring people together to share knowledge and cultivate a system of support while creating change in the apparel industry.
