Ribbit King

released on Jul 11, 2003

The 'Kero Kero' of the title comes from the onomatopoeia for the sound a frog makes. But no wonder the frog is squawking as it gets hammered around the course in a game of croquet with frogs instead of balls. Various conditions to consider too like in golf such as the wind direction or the fact that the ball is a frog and will jump off spiders webs or launch at passing flies. Allows players to enjoy their own characters in versus mode too.

golf with frogs that just do whatever tf they feel like after you make your shot. if they see a fly they will jump 200 feet into the air to get it and end up nowhere near where it originally landed. how has nobody ever revisited this concept

i'm biased, ribbit king is a classic game in my family. whenver i visit, my dad asks me to set up the playstation so we can play together. no other golf game can compare, because no other golf game has frogs and or aliens.

Silly little golf game. Played the multiplayer with a friend, and had a good time. Not that many levels, sadly, so you can play everything (in multiplayer) in a few hours. Recommended if you want to play something silly

3.5 purely because it's not the best game in the world, BUT it is the most charming golf game you'll ever play. Think Parappa mixed with Doaremon!

Frog gold what else do you need? Final Boss is a cheater

decided to do an impulse replay of this just a few days ago, going for 100%. unfortunately i wasnt able to "truly" 100% this game as I didn't unlock all the bottlecaps, which kinda sucks but im not exactly saddened by because most of them are unlocked from what is basically grinding. and when i know what i gotta do to get something, and all thats in the way is just tedious grinding... im not gonna do it, simply because i dont wanna spend the time doing it. so i did just download a 100% save file to look at all the bottlecaps anyway, and also watch all the ribbit king plus shorts, i dont really feel bad about that!

anyways this game, obviously i dont think its a masterpiece or anything and i dont necessarily hold it in high prestige as a masterful work of art or anything, but it is obviously still one of my favorite games of all time purely for how silly and charming it is, but also because of the memories that i associate with the memories ive had with the game itself, that i will always hold near and dear. the game is far from perfect in my opinion, on a gameplay front. if you're going into it expecting a very strategic GOLFING game, you're in for surefire disappointment. this is definitely more of a general party game, with what may seem like strategy at play on the surface, when reality it really is just... all luck. about 80% of the time i feel, you will not have a plan or route in mind work out. you simply cannot plan ahead in this game and go down a specific route, because it will either backfire or just end up simply not doing what you had in mind, at LEAST 80% of the time, in my opinion. which is not a bad thing, i dont think it makes this game that frustrating. the thing im still a little peeved by is how the cpus work in this game in story mode; they're not ai controlled, rather they're basically just a preset set of inputs that the developers put in for each of the opponents turns. meaning the cpus will often do the exact same move every turn, if you replay that match with them, which has its downsides, but also a bit of an upside. on your first stroke with them you can kinda fuck them over and go down the exact route they planned to go down and grab all the bubbles and flies, and basically fuck up their plan (which they will always take that exact same path, their very first turn). I dont think its completely rigid; I believe they will have some variance in their moves, but it's still.... kinda lazy game design, if you ask me. Sparky and woosh, the third time you frolf against him, is just honestly ridiculous, because these mfs WILL, and i mean WILL get two frog in ones on two of the holes (or at least one), which is fairly unfair. So you know i dont feel that bad for save stating on that match because im basically doing the same thing the "cpu" was doing? I mean if the cpus were essentially cheating through the entire game I should be able to do it right? Anyways, it sounds like ive got bigger issues with this game, but the truth is I think im honestly fairly decent at this game; i only lost one entire game, and that was with sparky and whoosh 3, so i think im able to put up with a lot of the design flaws( and also NUMEROUS collision problems like seriously, there were two fucking times i went completely out of bounds). the jank of this game does add to a lot of the fun, especially if you're playing with other people. apologies for the rambly review, but i mean, this game is still a very simple, but charming as hell and fun as hell game! i really enjoyed the replay i had with it.
