2024 has blown past us and we hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable New Year.

If you are someone who likes to mark the start of a new year with a crisp walk, a sea dip or are wanting to get your steps up as a 2025 resolution, you may be wondering what New Year's Day has in store weather-wise.

A yellow weather warning for wind in parts of Northern Ireland ended at 2pm on New Year's Eve, with the Met Office cancelling a previously issued snow warning for January 1 on Monday.

Temperatures are set to drop over the next few days as winds can be expected to continue in parts of the country.

Here is the Northern Ireland weather forecast from the Met Office:

Tuesday (New Year's Eve)

New Year's eve will mark a change to colder conditions. Dry for many areas but a few showers around the north coast, clear spells developing but breezy at times. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Wednesday (New Year's Day)

A cold start to the New Year with fresh winds and showers, starting to turn wintry on higher ground, brighter spells inland away from the showers. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

A very cold spell for the first few days of January, northerly winds and some wintry showers for coastal areas, a lot of bright and dry conditions further inland.
