Innovative Dry Shampoos

Currently, there is a big revival happening for dry shampoo. There is a reason for this, as the new and innovative formulations have not much in common with the heavy powder from our childhood. Excess sebum and impurities are being soaked up by ingredients like silica, and hair feels airy and clean again. Hair receives new volume, grip and smells fresh. Dry shampoo cannot only be used to freshen up oily or dirty hair but also to add some texture and a little bit of grit to freshly washed hair that would otherwise be hard to style. The hair needs to be dried like usual first for this and then the dry shampoo is added to the roots and lengths. Use this with caution though, as hair gets slightly matt this way. Using a dry shampoo with brown or darker hair is no longer a problem today, as they don’t leave a stark white film over the hair anymore. If too much dry shampoo is used or sprayed from too close up, even new formulas can leave a white residue, which might even look like dandruff. The correct use of dry shampoo is crucial to stop this from happening.

How do you use dry shampoo correctly?

Shake the can well and then spray from about 20 cm in short bursts directly onto the roots. It’s the easiest to work through the hair in smaller sections and shake the can well frequently. The dry shampoo should be allowed to absorb oils for about 2-3 minutes. Gently massage the powder into the hair and then brush through well. Brushes with natural bristles are highly recommended for this, as they are gentler to hair. For curly hair, it’s often enough to simply massage the powder in with your fingers because brushing through would damage the curl pattern.

Dry shampoo is in general not harmful to the hair. Constantly using only dry shampoo is clearly not the best choice, as it cannot replace a “real” hair wash with water and hair care products. For a quick refresher in between washes, it is a perfect choice!
