Moderation of Teacher Assessment (TA): Key Stage 2
External moderation is statutory provision which gives confidence that schools’ teacher assessment (TA) judgements for KS2 writing, are accurate and consistent with national standards, as specified in the interim TA framework and the exemplification material. Brent LA has a statutory duty to moderate a sample of at least 25% of schools to validate these judgements.
Academies, Free and Independent Schools that opt into Brent LA's moderation process will be charged a fee for a moderation visit based on their number of forms of entry. Maintained schools that are not selected but wish to access the service as part of their monitoring pupil achievement process will also be charged accordingly. However, maintained schools selected by the LA to receive monitoring and/or a moderation visit will not be charged.
Schools of 1 - 2 forms of entry will receive a half-day visit. Schools of 3 or more forms of entry will receive a whole-day visit. Moderation visits are conducted by a team consisting of an STA approved lead moderator and a number of STA approved school-based practitioners. The number of practitioners is dependent on the number of classes in the key stage.
