Over the past few years, many of us (including the design world) have been drawn to the blues and greens found in nature. These colors evoke a sense of calm and tranquility and have helped transform our homes into respites. While nature-inspired palettes will continue to be popular in 2024, Brittany Farinas, CEO and creative director at House of One, says we’re starting to see more sunrise and sunset colors thrown into the mix, something she refers to as a euphoric palette. “People are outgrowing modern color palettes and looking into including more color in their spaces,” she says. “This not only adds warmth, but uniqueness and personality to a project.” From a continuation of blues and greens to the addition of teals, aquas, soft oranges, and warm yellows, get ready to heat things up with a euphoric take on color. Here, Farinas shares everything you need to know about this color trend, plus how you can put it to use in your home. Carson Downing What Are Euphoric Colors? The beauty of a euphoric palette is that it can take on many tones. Think of a sunrise or sunset and the myriad colors that dance across the horizon. The variety of shades and nuance are unmatched, ranging from purples, blues, and greens, to yellows, oranges, and subtle apricots that almost read as neutrals. Because the shades are so vast, it’s important to select colors that play nicely with each other and also speak to your style preferences to help create a cohesive and calming environment. How to Select a Euphoric Color Scheme “There are so many beautiful color combinations inspired by nature that go beyond green and blues,” says Farinas. “We’re always looking to push boundaries on the norm, so when selecting color stories for our projects, we are interested in looking to introduce different beautiful tones that speak to the space and the client.” That means selecting a color palette that isn’t too trendy, instead focusing on shades that will make people feel at home. This allows the color scheme to effortlessly blend through different eras, Farinas explains. “Also, understanding one’s own emotive thought process on what colors they gravitate toward should be crucial.” When it comes to trends, they certainly have their place. Think about incorporating them into your home design in small-scale ways. For example, curvy silhouettes continue to have a moment. Instead of making your decor all swoops and circles, incorporate a side table with a scallop detail. The same can be said of a euphoric palette. Avoid going all in; instead, call on details here and there for a look that can easily work with other styles. Jim Franco How to Use a Euphoric Palette with Accent Colors Getting in on the euphoric color trend might feel like jumping off into the deep end—especially if you’re not accustomed to using lots of color. Farinas says the best way to start is by going small. “Accent colors in secondary applications, such as textiles for throw pillows, accent wall coverings, and even in lighting, are great ways to pack color into small portions,” she says. The designer suggests warm blues, teal, aqua, and warm yellows to help you achieve the desired look. “We always recommend acquainting yourself with the basics of color theory and experimenting with color palettes that evoke endless (and much needed!) relaxation.” 3 Ways to Use a Euphoric Palette Farinas shares her top three ways to get in on this sunny trend. Gold Bold with a Statement Piece While there’s beauty in the details, Farinas says going big can also achieve a winning look. But before you go painting a statement wall, look to the furnishings and architectural elements. “We love going for a bold primary piece, whether that’s a sofa, bed, or millwork. This sets the tone for the rest of the space,” she says. Consider Lighting Lighting plays a profound role in design, which makes it an easy choice for a more modern or trend-focused moment, even when it comes to introducing these sunrise-inspired shades. Farinas says it can be something as sleek as a straightforward pendant or as ornate as a timeless sconce. “Also consider recessed lighting around consoles and entertainment units to highlight the lines of the home,” she says. Highlight Small Accessories Finally, allow these nature-inspired shades to pop in small ways throughout your home’s decor. “Tie in bold hues by highlighting unexpected objects into the forefront—think coffee table books, hand-spun blankets, and even striking wall art that inspires happiness and positivity in one's home,” suggests Farinas. This can be a great way to get in on the trend in a subtle way that doesn’t feel like a big commitment. How to Paint a Sunset-Inspired Wall Treatment Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback!
