Best external storage for PS4 games on PS5 - ResetEra
Nov 7, 2020 · I have an old Samsung 250gb SSD (that I stuck in an external enclosure) I used with my PS4 that I'm gonna stick on my PS5 for now. I'm hoping it improves performance over the same drive back on the PS4 Pro. I don't want to buy another drive for storage for the time being until the internal NVME for PS5 prices come down.
Can you transfer data from one external PS4 hdd to another?
Aug 8, 2018 · Since I just got a 1TB SSD for my PS4 Pro, I'd like to use an external drive to store games I don't play often. I think for now I'd like to go with a 4TB WD drive that is powered via USB (I know PS4 supports up to 8TB, but those drives spin up slowly and also require a PSU).

Nov 7, 2020 · So I don’t think it’ll be cost effective to use the internal drives for PS4 games any time soon, since you can get a cheaper spec NVMe drive in an external enclosure for that. Once interest shifts from PS4 BC games over to native PS5 games, internal storage will become a problem quite quickly. Hopefully Sony has sorted that shit out by then.

I saw a big difference in loading speeds for PS4 games as on PS4PRO the drive ran at 5gigabits max but now it gets the full 10gigabits from the USB-C port on PS5. Put the console in rest modes several times. I don't suspend games ...

Use a SuperSpeed USB or faster (USB 3.0 or later) storage drive with 250 GB minimum and 8 TB maximum capacity, formatted for exFAT (note: PS5 can format a connected compatible USB drive for exFAT).

Nov 7, 2020 · I have a 5TB WD_Black P10 for cold storage and a 2TB WD_Black for PS4 BC games The P10 (HDD) will max out at 100-150Mb/s - good for cold storage, same speed (or slightly faster than the PS4's internal storage) The P50 (SSD) will max out at 1Gb/s - Good for improved leading times in BC (8-10x faster than the internal storage of the PS4)

Press Options and Select Copy to select and start copying installs from starting External Storage to internal PS4 drive 500GB at a time. From the Devices Submenu, Select Stop Using Extended Storage on the old drive.
