Blue Crush

Anne Marie (Kate Bosworth) is a talented surfer who has lost her edge. Guardian to her kid sister and the glue in her friendship circle, with a love connection on the horizon and a surfing title within reach, Anne Marie is doing everything she can to stay afloat.

Inspired by the 1998 article “The Maui Surfer Girls” by Susan Orlean, Blue Crush paints a story of artists working less-than-desirable jobs so that they can spend more meaningful time carving waves in a small town on Hawaii, reminiscent of the end game of the surfers in Point Break (1991) before it. Many of us looked at the lives in Blue Crush, set in what seems like an eternal summer, as a fantasy, perhaps too foreign to live, but not to foreign to adopt the style, the clothes, the music, and the attitude. Blue Crush splashed into the aughties with a Billabong culture that felt irresistibly youthful and free. Experience the rush of the waves at the of height of summer with us. (VANYA GARRAWAY)
