KUALA LUMPUR: The fifth-place playoff between Pakistan and Malaysia in the ACC U19 Women’s Asia Cup at the Bayuemas Oval on Wednesday was abandoned due to rain, resulting in no result.
After opting to bat first, Pakistan managed to post a total of 115 for six in their 20 overs. Areesha Ansari, batting at number six, was the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 42 off 35 balls, including six boundaries.
Malaysia’s chase began poorly, losing two wickets for just five runs in 3.2 overs before rain interrupted play. The hosts’ top order was unsettled by Mahnoor Zaib, who delivered a superb spell, claiming two wickets for just two runs in 1.2 overs.
The rain eventually brought an early end to the contest, leaving Pakistan unable to secure a result in their final game of the tournament.
Having failed to qualify for the Super Four stage after defeats to India and Nepal in the group stages, Pakistan now prepares to return home. They will travel back to Malaysia next month to participate in the ICC Women’s U19 World Cup, scheduled from January 18 to February 2, 2025.
