When Kalista Kassidy Caufield tied the knot in October 2023 at The Island Resort in Islamorada, Florida, she shared the ultimate surprise with her wedding guests at the reception. Instead of the traditional father-daughter dance, Kassidy Caufield and her dad, Doug Miller, performed a choreographed number that made a lasting impression on everyone in attendance. Kassidy Caufield uploaded the footage of the synchronized performance to TikTok on February 12, 2024, where it’s gone viral with over 1 million views. “When you and your dad surprise everyone at your wedding…wait for it!” she captioned the clip.
The video begins with Kassidy Caufield and Miller wrapping their arms around one another and swaying side by side—dancing to “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw, according to the bride—until the music changes. Suddenly, the two of them back away from one another, sharing confused glances, before breaking out into their choreography. The dance shows the two of them shaking their hips, shimmying side to side, clapping their hands, and demonstrating a few cheerleading moves while a medley of tunes, such as “Wiggle” by Jason Derulo, “Push It” by Salt-N-Pepper, and “Apache (Jump on It)” by The Sugarhill Gang, play. At one point, the father of the bride even jumps over his daughter.
Kassidy Caufield told Good Morning America in an interview that when she posed the idea to her dad, he was immediately on board. “He thought the dance for my wedding was a great idea because he knew that he would be emotional on my wedding day, and he thought this would help him take his mind off of crying during our dance,” the bride explained. From there, the mother of the bride, a dance choreographer, created and taught them all of the moves. At least once a week, for a month and a half before the big day, the family rehearsed.
The bride said putting on the performance at her reception was a blast. “It was so much fun…no one expected this transition at all,” she admitted. And their guests were equally entertained. “My dad and I both love to put on a good show, and we did just that,” Kassidy Caufield said. “Honestly, the best part was watching my grandparents’ reactions in videos later that night. They were laughing so hard that they were crying. Both of them thought it was so funny, and all our guests had absolutely no idea!”
Since the bride and her dad enjoyed practicing and performing the number and seeing everyone’s reactions, she encourages others to follow suit. “If you’re thinking about doing a surprise dance at your wedding, 100 percent do it,” she said. “It is something that everyone is still talking about, and it is such a special memory for my dad and I.”
