School teams arrive at Mbarara High School ahead of the USSSA Elite championships

The teams from different parts of the country started arriving as early as Tuesday night with Sacred Heart Girls Gulu becoming the first to settle in Ruharo as others poured in on the official arrival date of Wednesday, January 25.

The School teams that will take part in this year’s edition of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Associations (USSSA) Elite Schools championship have arrived at the hosting Mbarara High School in Mbarara City.

The teams from different parts of the country started arriving as early as Tuesday night with Sacred Heart Girls Gulu becoming the first to settle in Ruharo as others poured in on the official arrival date of Wednesday, January 25.

“We are delighted to have arrived safely and ready for the challenge. We are very sure this event will help us fine-tune for the secondary schools' championships and the girls are well set to compete against the best,” said Sacred Heart Girls Gulu football team coach Nasan Amone.

Among the top side competitors roaring to go ahead of today’s commencement are basketball 3x3 champions Buddo SS.

“We have come to this event for the major purpose of gaining more exposure and training ahead of the African tournament in Morocco soon and also weigh our strength against the very best because we are the team to beat this year,” Said Buddo SS 3X3 captain Herbert Lumansi Jr.

The FEASSSA winners are looking ahead to the nearest African schools' championships and will use the chance to strengthen the team   

This will be the fourth edition of the games and the first time they are hosted outside Kampala and will see teams compete in football, basketball, basketball 3x3, netball, volleyball, and handball.

The elite event is competed for by teams that reach the quarter-finals of the USSSA championships of the previous year.

Last year, St Mary’s Kitende won netball, boys’ football, and girls’ basketball accolades, while Standard High Zzana and Katikamu SDA emerged as boys' and girls’ volleyball champions respectively with Bethel Covenant wining the boys' basketball, while Kawempe Moslem emerged as girls football winners.
