Milton High School graduates Class of 2017
MILTON - Milton School District graduated over 100 students on Saturday at Milton High School with Gov. Phil Scott giving the commencement address.
"My path wasn't straight and it wasn't easy. Yours won't be either," Scott said to the graduating class. "You never know which hand you will be dealt or where your next experience will lead you or where you end up or maybe even how you'll get there. And that's ok, because that's what makes life interesting."
Scott added that the students never to give up and be kind.
"Tweet others the way you want to be tweeted," Scott said eliciting laughs and applause from the spectators in the high school gym.
Scott grew up in Barre and received a bachelor's degree in industrial education from the University of Vermont, where 13 Milton students were accepted, according to the graduation program list.
Alaina Carstensen gave a valedictorian address about being persistent and tenacious in the face of uneasiness.
"Emanate kindness. Present gratitude. Face your fears," Carstensen said.
Carstensen graduated summa cum laude and will be attending the University of Vermont this fall. She also was a co-recipient of the Vermont Scholars Award and the Ryan Memorial Scholarship.
Faculty speakers were Athletic Director Michael Jabour and Case Newberry social studies teacher. Superintendent Ann Bradshaw and Milton School Board Chairwoman Lori Donna handed out Diplomas.
