Apple's first-ever store in India was launched on Tuesday at Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla Complex. Apple CEO Tim Cook opened the doors and welcomed customers to the store
Apple’s first retail store at Jio World Drive in BKC, Mumbai, is in the midst of Mumbai’s commercial district and Band Stand. It is surrounded by international luxury brands such as TUMI, Armani Exchange, Coach, Bally, Hugo Boss, and Mont Blanc
The excitement over the launch was evident as people started to line up in queues outside the Apple store early in the morning as the anticipation surrounding the store opening grew multi-fold among people
Apple loyalists came ahead of the launch to support the brand. A customer-named Sajid, who has been a loyal user of Apple products, turned up in the iconic Steve Jobs black turtleneck with his 30-year-old 1984 Macintosh computer
Sajid said that he was very happy with the launch of the store in India, and that there was no product equivalent to Apple which gave him as much joy while designing. He added, “It's been a long journey. I'm happy Apple is opening its store in India.”
The Apple retail store in India is inspired by the ‘Kaali Peeli’ taxi popular art in Mumbai. A second Apple store will be launched in New Delhi on Thursday
Another Apple loyalist brought along his 10-year-old iPod, hoping to get it autographed by Tim Cook. He stated that he bought the iPod as a keepsake and unboxed it today morning in hopes of getting it signed by the Apple CEO
In the past, most Apple stores witnessed a similar response with buyers lining up hours in advance, if not days to be the first to purchase an Apple product. Some customers have been queuing up in front of the store since 6 am in the morning and some even claim to be waiting since 8 pm on Monday
Apple CEO Tim Cook arrived in India on Monday and will have a packed schedule during his stay in India. On Day 1, Cook was greeted by Bollywood celebrities like Madhuri Dixit, Raveena Tandon, and even music maestro AR Rahman
Tim Cook is expected to meet PM Modi as the company commits to the Indian market with growing market share as well as production for its popular products like iPhones
