New York City Council Member Kevin C. Riley, in partnership with several Bronx-based leaders and organizations, held a Trunk or Treat event for the Bronx community on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Northeast Bronx YMCA, located at 1250 E. 229th St.
This Trunk or Treat was organized in an effort to help create safe and accessible spaces for kids and families across the Northeast Bronx during Halloween. It promotes public safety and fosters a spirit of unity through a secure and supervised environment. In addition to strengthening family bonds, this event also promoted community engagement.
Others leaders and organizations that partnered with Riley and the Northeast Bronx YMCA for the Trunk or Treat event included New York State Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, New York State Senator Jamaal T. Bailey, the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, the It Was All A Dream Foundation, Signed by McFly fashion brand CEO Mugzy McFly, High Rollerz Luxury Rentals and DJ Trase.
Several other community partners were on hand to provide families with their services. These organizations included House of SpeakEasy, Stand Up to Violence (SUV), Ridgewood Savings Bank, Fidelis Care and many more.
The community members and partners on hand for the event had vehicles decorated with festive themes as they handed out candy from their trunk to kids and families on hand for the event. DJ Trase entertained attendees with music. Other fun activities that those in attendance got to enjoy included a pumpkin patch, a costume contest, an arts and crafts station, photo opportunities, games and raffles.
Council Member Riley represents the 12th Council District of New York City, which includes the Bronx neighborhoods of Wakefield, Baychester, Eastchester, Olinville, Edenwald, Williamsbridge and Co-op City. He also serves as the Chair on the Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises and the Co-Chair for the Black, Latino and Asian Caucus.
