Let’s Say Nice Things About... Owen Hart

WWE.com

In an effort to bring some positivity to professional wrestling—and the world for that matter—Cageside Seats and its community will say nice things about people and things in wrestling every single day throughout 2017.

Remember, only positive comments allowed here. Negativity will not be tolerated, and that includes back-handed compliments and troll comments. Any comments that are not in the spirit of this feature will be flagged, deleted, and posters of said comments may be subjected to a ban.

I have a feeling today will be one of the easier “Let’s Say Nice Things”. And one of the more emotional. Considering this is the 18th anniversary of his passing, today’s subject is the late Owen Hart.

I’ll start. Most everyone in the locker room—you know, the people you see way more often than your family in the highest levels of the wrestling business—loved him. I mean, as long as you weren’t pranked by him, in which case you hated him in the moment, but loved him later.

His feud with Bret Hart is the stuff of legend, with Owen perfectly capturing the image of a younger brother in his more famous brother’s shadow.

This isn’t to say Owen was a Marty Jannetty. He was quite good on his own as well as in tag teams with British Bulldog, Yokozuna, and Jeff Jarrett.

Owen was an amazing performer who was taken from us far too soon. I have a feeling he would still be contributing to the business in some way today. Or maybe he would have done what he had hoped to do: go quietly into retirement and become a teacher.

Rest in peace, Owen.
