Crayon Box Doodle Cake
My daughter wanted an art party for her 5th birthday. She loves to draw, and every day she takes all the paper from our printer and draws about a hundred pictures. I thought, if I was going to make her a cake, it had to be one full of crayons & her white pages of drawings. So, in honor to her, we made her a cute little gumpaste crayon box and a "gallery" of her drawings on the cake layers. She helped me draw the pictures on the "paper" sheets. In the end, this cake was one of my favorites!

Rustic Woodland Animals Cake
This was a birthday cake made for my sweet daughter's 8th birthday. She wanted a "camping" party, but it still needed to be girly. So we designed her party to be a woodland theme with sweet little animals. The cake was inspired by her invitations, and was complete with a tree slice, cute hedgehog, toadstools, ferns, mushrooms, and a darling little fox.

Lego Birthday Cake
Birthday cake for my sweet little guy's lego themed party. He said, "Mom, keep it simple, all I want are three stacked Lego bricks". Who knew simple would be such a challenge? I must have spent hours getting those edges sharp. :-) It's not perfect, but I think it's pretty cute. :-)

Ladybug Birthday Cake
This cute little ladybug cake was made for my dear friend's daughter's first birthday. The bottom tier was a 6" round, the top was a 4" smash cake. I wanted to keep the cake itself really simple so the little ladybug would really pop. So I kept the palette of the cake a monochromatic pale green & white, and let the ladybug shine. Cake was fresh strawberry cake with strawberry puree and white chocolate buttercream. All buttercream iced with fondant decorations.

Pom Pom Holiday Cake
Cake made for a New Year's eve party, inspired by my sister's favorite winter sweater. I fell in love with the little pom poms, which were made from cake pops. The poppies, dusty miller, & lambs ear on top are some of her favorite flowers. Bottom tier is german chocolate cake with coconut/pecan filling and chocolate ganache. Top tier is coconut cake with raspberry filling & white chocolate ganache. All covered in coconut fondant. I wish I'd been able to get the sweater texture to stay perfectly straight when I wrapped it around the cake (any tips on keeping this from stretching would be great), but otherwise I was pleased. Happy New Year!

Blue Ombre Ocean Birthday Cake
My daughter wanted a blue ocean cake for her third birthday. I love ombre cakes, and thought it would be a perfect way to represent the subtle blue hues of water. But it still had to be fun & playful for a child. So, I made the bottom tier with ombre mermaid scales, fading from light blue to dark blue. The top tier has golden seaweed, bubbles, waves, & a little mermaid tail splashing out of the top. Each tier was made from 6" layers of vanilla buttermilk cake, died in an ombre blue pattern (from light blue to dark blue), with blackberry filling & almond SMBC. My six year old was jealous. :-)

Valentine's Cherry Love Cupcakes
I got a last minute request for cupcakes for my son's school valentine's party; and being the crazy woman that I am, I just couldn't deliver "plain" cupcakes (where's the fun in that?). So, off I went to make some cherry love cupcakes. 28 cupcakes, alternating chocolate & cherry cheesecake flavors, topped with ganache, SMBC, & fondant cherries & banners. Plus one floral cupcake for his teacher, at my son's request. Not my cleanest work (I would've loved to spend more time & get the lettering neater), but for a product out the door in three hours, I was pleased.

Plants Vs. Zombies Birthday Cake
This was for my son's 8th birthday. He loves the game Plants vs Zombies, so I thought I'd give him a special cake to celebrate. The figures are all inspired by the game, & made with 50/50 fondant & gumpaste. The zombie hand & parchment note are gumpaste. I wanted the happy birthday sign to look as though it was written by the zombies, so I painted the words messily with food coloring. Cake was chocolate with salted caramel SMBC, & vanilla buttermilk with raspberry curd. My son & all his friends loved it. Thanks for looking!

Vintage Toys Baby Belly Cake
I made this cake for a friend for her first baby boy. She really wanted a baby belly cake, but she also wanted to include some fun vintage elements. I drew my inspiration from vintage children's toys, & made a sock monkey (thanks to the tutorial by karen421), baby blocks painted with farm scenes, radio flyer wagon, & biplane. Sitting on top of the belly are two adorable baby converse (also thanks to tutorials on CC). This was my first attempt at cake sculptures, & man oh man they took forever! I think I lost a week's sleep trying to get the sock monkey just right. I know they aren't perfect, but I sure would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks everyone!

Gumpaste Sunflowers
My first attempt at gumpaste sunflowers. Practice for a wedding cake. I wanted them to look more realistic than just using the daisy cutters. Petals were made individually and wired to the centers. The mock arrangement also has tulip buds, pulled blossoms, hydrangeas, & dusty miller leaves.

Vintage Rustic Garden Wedding Cupcakes
These cupcakes were part of a dessert buffet that I did for a recent wedding. The wedding was on a farm, and the couple wanted everything to be rustic and homey, yet elegant. I decided on an elegant version of an Americana garden party as my inspiration. Lots of gumpaste flowers, hints of red white & blue, rustic display pieces using vintage fruit crates, wooden cupcake stands, & milk glass. Vintage tin cans & mason jars as flower vases & serving pieces. The cupcakes were sweet n salty chocolate with chocolate ganache frosting, and vanilla buttermilk with almond buttercream. Delish! The sugar flowers were inspired by the bride's bouquet, and included ranunculus, peonies, sunflowers, lily of the valley, hydrangeas, tulip buds, filler flowers, dusty miller, and lamb's ear leaves. I also made the rest of the desserts for the dessert buffet, which included mini rustic fruit pies (blueberry, cherry, apple), mini lemon meringue tarts, mini lemon bite cookies, gourmet lollipops, chocolate mousse shots in miniature mason jars, and homemade jam as favors for the guests. I think everything turned out lovely, but I would love to hear all your thoughts! Please see my other pictures of the coordinating wedding cake. Thanks!

Vintage Wedding Cake With Ranunculus
This is my very first wedding cake, made for my brother and beautiful new sister-in-law. The wedding was on my sister's farm, and the couple wanted everything to be rustic and homey, yet elegant. I knew I wanted a relaxed, vintage look with lots of flowers. The bride also used lots of vintage blue tin cans, blue mason jars, burlap, & raffia in her decor, so I used these as my jumping point. The flavors also needed to be rustic & natural. The cake was a vanilla buttermilk studded with fresh blackberries (picked from the farm), and was filled with alternating layers of blackberry confit and almond buttercream. Delish! The sugar flowers included ranunculus, peonies, sunflowers, lily of the valley, hydrangeas, tulip buds, filler flowers, dusty miller, and lamb's ear leaves. Photos by Teddi Yaeger Photography (many thanks for her beautiful work). I also made cupcakes & a dessert buffet for the reception. I know it's not perfect, but I was pretty darn proud of my first wedding production!

Blue Bird Baby Shower Cake
This is a blue bird cake I made for my sister's baby shower. It features a little baby blue bird, and his loving mommy bird. Gumpaste birds and nest. The handmade gumpaste flowers are ranunculus, hydrangeas, fillers, tulip buds, with lots of assorted leaves. I was going to put a little banner hung between the bird's mouths with the new baby's name on it, but my sister decided she wanted to keep his name a surprise. i think it would have been adorable, though. This is my favorite cake I have made, and I absolutely loved every detail in it. My sister loved it so much, she said she didn't want to cut into it! Flavors were chocolate fudge cake with raspberry buttercream, and chocolate ganache. Covered in chocolate fondant. Thanks to everyone for looking!

Tropical Hula Girl Ocean Birthday Cake
I am a newbie in the world of cake decorating, and I absolutely love it! This was made for my daughter's birthday. she wanted a hula/surf party. Tons of detail in this cake: gumpaste surf, fondant wave curls, brown sugar sand, a bucket & shovel, flip flops, palm trees, a little crab, coral, anemones, an octopus, starfish, and of course, my "daughter" in a hula skirt. The cake was a coconut cake with mango curd and vanilla bean buttercream. Unfortunately, I finished the cake in the wee hours of the night, and fell asleep on the sofa before I put it in the fridge, so it does have some sagging. Luckily, my daughter didn't care, and she loved her cake!
