Tigers Athletic Hall of Fame set to induct 13 into 2018 class

Murray Mitchell, the first head coach of the Carroll boys basketball team, coach Roger McQueary and 11 former Tigers athletes will be inducted in the 2018 class of the Tigers Athletic Hall of Fame.

Mitchell, an Army veteran and NBA draft pick of the Boston Celtics coached at Magnolia, Ray and Beaumont High School before becoming Carroll's first coach in 1957, a position he held for seven years.

Martin Kahn, Joe O'Brien, Tommy Smith and Porter Williams from the 1962 Tigers football team and Ken Montgomery (1965) are among the class.

Tennis players Diana Beachum and Rosie Ramos (1963) and baseball players Larry Butler (1963), Ronnie Sutton (1963), Jeff Hodges (1964) and David Matthews (1965) will also be inducted.

Beachum and Ramos were the first state champions in school history, winning the state doubles championship in 1963.

The induction ceremony will coincide with the Carroll-Ray 55-year reunion at the BBQ Man banquet room Oct. 25
