Sharks' Tyler Toffoli: Opens scoring in victory
Toffoli scored a goal on four shots and added one hit, one takeaway and a plus-2 rating in 16:10 of ice time in Thursday's 4-3 win over St. Louis.
Toffoli opened the scoring Thursday with his 12th goal of the campaign just over a minute into the contest. The right-shot winger has scored three goals through five games to start December, but he's registered just one assist in his last nine appearances. So long as he's skating alongside Macklin Celebrini, Toffoli will be a solid option in most formats given his natural goal-scoring ability. The 32-year-old Toffoli leads the Sharks with 12 goals, and he's up to 20 points through 32 games.

Sharks' Nikolai Kovalenko: Three helpers Thursday
Kovalenko distributed three assists Thursday in a 4-3 win over St. Louis.
Kovalenko recorded his first three-point outing of the campaign Thursday, and it came in just his second game with his new club. The 25-year-old skated on the top line with Macklin Celebrini and Tyler Toffoli, and Kovalenko's ice time increased from 9:23 in his first game with the Sharks on Tuesday to 13:18 in Thursday's victory. Kovalenko will certainly be a name to keep an eye on if he can maintain a top-six role, and he could be an option on the man advantage Saturday against Utah if Klim Kostin (undisclosed) is unable to suit up. The left-shot winger Kovalenko is up to four goals and 11 points through 30 appearances (28 with Colorado).

Sharks' Jake Walman: Goal, assist in St. Louis
Walman generated a goal and an assist in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Blues.
Walman registered an assist on the man advantage in the second period, and his goal to put San Jose up 4-2 in the third period stood as the eventual game-winner. The Ontario native was all over the scoresheet Thursday -- he logged four shots on net, three blocked shots, one takeaway and a plus-1 rating to go along with a team-high 23:52 of ice time. Walman was highly productive in November with 10 points in as many games, but he had just one point over four games in December prior to Thursday's multi-point effort. The Sharks' No. 1 blueliner is leading the club on the back end in scoring with five goals and 17 assists through 27 appearances. The 28-year-old also set a new career high in points in his sixth NHL campaign.

Sharks' Macklin Celebrini: Trio of points in victory
Celebrini potted two goals, one on the power play, and added a helper in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Blues.
Celebrini set up Tyler Toffoli's goal to open the scoring Thursday, and he found the back of the net twice in the middle frame to help the Sharks pick up the road win. Celebrini fired a team-high six shots on net, and he had one takeaway and a plus-1 rating in 17:18 of ice time. It was the 18-year-old's second three-point outing of the season, and he's up to six multi-point performances in his first NHL campaign. The 2024 first-overall pick is hovering around a point-per-game pace with 10 goals and nine assists through 20 appearances.

Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: Wins first game with new club
Georgiev stopped 17 of 20 shots in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Blues.
Georgiev was acquired in a trade from the Avalanche on Monday, and he registered a road win Thursday in his first appearance with San Jose. The 28-year-old has won his last two starts (one with Colorado), and he'll certainly have a chance to be the Sharks' No. 1 netminder -- Yaroslav Askarov is in the minors and Vitek Vanecek has struggled through the early portion of the 2024-25 campaign. Georgiev is up to a 9-7-0 record, .873 save percentage and 3.36 GAA through 19 total appearances.

Kostin (undisclosed) is questionable to return to Thursday's game versus the Blues, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Kostin was dealing with a lower-body injury earlier in the week, but it's not clear if this issue is related. Assuming he doesn't return, he can be considered day-to-day ahead of Saturday's game versus Utah.

Sharks' Cody Ceci: Notches assist in loss
Ceci recorded an assist, four hits and a minus-2 rating in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes.
Ceci has a goal, an assist, nine blocked shots and six hits over five games on the Sharks' current road trip, which ends Thursday in St. Louis. The 30-year-old blueliner is up to seven points, 34 shots on net, 33 hits, 56 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating through 31 outings. He remains in a top-pairing role, but his physicality is more impressive than his offense.

Sharks' Luke Kunin: Lights lamp twice in loss
Kunin scored two goals in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes.
The veteran forward gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead heading into the third period, but the struggling team couldn't make it hold up. It was Kunin's first multi-goal performance of the season, but he's been surprisingly productive with eight goals and 12 points over 31 games -- a pace that gives him a shot at topping the career-high 15 goals and 31 points he produced for the Wild in 2019-20.

Sharks' Vitek Vanecek: Lead slips away late
Vanecek made 25 saves in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes.
The Sharks took a 2-1 lead into the third period as Vanecek made some big stops early, but after Brent Burns tied it up on a tic-tac-toe passing play early in the third, the netminder couldn't find a knuckling shot that Jalen Chatfield fired through traffic with less than three minutes to go. It's not yet clear how San Jose will divvy up the workload in the crease between Vanecek and Alexandar Georgiev, but neither veteran should get too comfortable since Yaroslav Askarov is still waiting in the wings in the AHL. On the season, Vanecek carries a 3-7-1 record in 13 appearances with a 3.83 GAA and .883 save percentage.

Cardwell was reassigned to AHL San Jose on Tuesday.

Sharks' Shakir Mukhamadullin: Up from AHL
Mukhamadullin was recalled from AHL San Jose on Tuesday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Jack Thompson moved to the minors in a corresponding move. The defense swap was a late surprise on the roster report before Tuesday's game versus Carolina. Mukhamadullin will be a healthy scratch in the contest. He has six assists in 14 AHL appearances this season.

Sharks' Jack Thompson: Heads to AHL
Thompson is no longer listed on the Sharks' NHL roster, indicating he has been reassigned to AHL San Jose, per the NHL media site.
Thompson has played just once in the last seven games, so it's possible the organization wants him to get some playing time. Shakir Mukhamadullin was recalled in a corresponding move.

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Slated to play
Kostin (lower body) took line rushes on the second line and is expected to play Tuesday versus the Hurricanes, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Kostin appears to be set to avoid missing any time after being labeled a game-time decision prior to Tuesday's contest. The 25-year-old may not have a secure spot in the lineup, but he has suited up in 11 of the last 12 games.

Sharks' Nikolai Kovalenko: Could suit up Tuesday
Kovalenko (undisclosed) will be available to play in Tuesday's road game versus the Hurricanes, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Kovalenko was acquired by the Sharks in a trade with the Avalanche on Monday. The 25-year-old wasn't able to participate in the club's morning skate, but head coach Ryan Warsofsky said that Kovalenko will be an option at even strength and on the man advantage against the Hurricanes. Kovalenko will almost certainly be in the lineup if Klim Kostin (lower body), who is a game-time decision Tuesday, is unable play. Kovalenko accumulated four goals and four helpers over 28 games with Colorado.
