Census India 2011 - Population of India

The 15th Census of India 2011 was conducted the Census Organization of India.The Census 2011 is the 15th National census survey conducted by the Census Organization of India under Mr. C. Chandramouli who was the Commissioner & Registrar General of the Indian 2011 Census. The 2011 Census of India has been conducted in two phases, house listing and population. The national census covered all the 28 states and 7 Union territories including 640 districts, 497 cities, 5767 tehsils & over 6 lakh villages of India.
As per 2011 census, the population of India was 1,210,193,422 and added 181.5 million to population since 2001 census. The population of India has grown over 17% since last decade. Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state in India with population of 200 million. Out of the 121 crore Indians, 83.3 crore (68.84%) live in rural areas while 37.7 crore stay in urban areas.
India has major religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism, while also being home to several indigenous faiths and tribal religions.
