The Boys Season 3 received a release date of June 3, 2022. The third season will consist of eight episodes, three of which will debut on the premiere date. After that, one chapter will drop each week until the finale on July 8.

Prime Video’s synopsis suggests the coming episodes will kick off an all-out war between The Boys and The Seven:

“It’s been a year of calm. Homelander’s subdued. Butcher works for the government, supervised by Hughie of all people. But both men itch to turn this peace and quiet into blood and bone. So when The Boys learn of a mysterious Anti-Supe weapon, it sends them crashing into The Seven, starting a war, and chasing the legend of the first Superhero: Soldier Boy.”

Thanks to The Boys Season 3 trailers, fans know that “Anti-Supe weapon” may turn The Boys into Supes themselves. It’ll be interesting to see how they fare with a “level playing field.” So, which cast members are returning for the new episodes?

Who’s in the cast of ‘The Boys’ Season 3?

So, now that we know the release date for The Boys Season 3, who’s in the cast? The majority of main cast is returning for the third outing, including Antony Starr as Homelander, Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quiad as Hughie Campbell, and Erin Moriarty as Starlight. Giancarlo Esposito, Chace Crawford, Dominique McElligott, and Jessie T. Usher will also reprise their roles.

The most notable actor joining the show’s cast is Jensen Ackles, who will bring the legendary Soldier Boy to life. The first Supe threatens to be as terrible as Homelander. And he’ll no doubt rub the leader of The Seven the wrong way, especially if he steals his thunder.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, other newcomers include Laurie Holden, Sean Patrick Flanery, Miles Gaston Villanueva, and Nick Wechsler. They’ll play various new Supes, who may help fuel the war promised in the synopsis. The trailers don’t give away much in terms of that storyline, but they do promise some major tensions within each of the show’s teams.

Prime Video’s trailer teases a tense Homelander and the arrival of Soldier Boy

The notion of an all-out war in The Boys Season 3 sounds thrilling, but Prime Video’s trailers suggest the release date will showcase friction within The Boys and The Seven as well.

Footage of the coming episodes suggests Homelander has reached his breaking point — and that the other members of The Seven know it. Starlight alludes to the problem in a voiceover, but Vought is unlikely to do anything about Homelander’s worrisome state of mind. After all, he’s the face of their Supe team and a symbol for the public.

The Boys also promise to have some in-fighting, with Butcher working under Hughie and Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso) opposing their new weapon. He raises questions about whether anyone should have dangerous abilities they’re meant to oppose. And he makes a good point, asking if one should become their enemy to defeat them.

Speaking of the enemy, it’s not just Homelander the group needs to worry about this season. The Boys Season 3 trailer gives viewers a glimpse of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy, who looks every bit as dangerous as the leader of The Seven. Two powerful Supes can only mean bad things for Butcher and co. They might need their extra power to survive.

With the release date, cast, and trailer all announced, what else should fans know about The Boys Season 3? Showrunner Eric Kripke told Entertainment Weekly that the latest outing takes place about a year after the events of season 2. He noted that “everything is mostly under control” at this point. Of course, it’s unlikely to stay that way.

Kripke teased the dynamic between Homelander and Soldier Boy, which he confirmed will go south thanks to both characters’ pride.

“When you have two alpha males who both consider themselves the most powerful, most famous person on the planet, that gets to conflict pretty quickly,” Kripke explained.

The new season will also feature the “Herogasm” storyline from The Boys comics, which promises to be every bit as wild on-screen. Fans will have to see if it lives up to the source material. Fortunately, they don’t have long to wait.
