With Steve McMichael unable to travel to the Pro Football Hall of Fame due to his battle with ALS, the Hall of Fame will be coming to him.
Hall of Fame president Jim Porter will head to McMichael's home in the Chicago suburb of Homer Glen Saturday to present the former Bears star defensive tackle with his gold jacket and bust as part of the Class of 2024's enshrinement ceremony.
Accompanying Porter from Canton, Ohio, will be McMichael's wife, Misty, their daughter, Macy, and Hall of Fame former Bears teammates Richard Dent and Jimbo Covert. Other former teammates and members of the Super Bowl XX champion 1985 Bears expected to be at McMichael's home for a private celebration include Tom Thayer, Gary Fencik, Jim Osborne, Jim Morrissey and Emery Moorehead.
In addition, ChicagoBears.com will be on hand at McMichael's home to capture special moments throughout the day.
McMichael, 66, played 13 seasons with the Bears from 1981-93, appearing in a franchise-record 191 straight games. The Texas native affectionately known as "Mongo" ranks second in team history with 92.5 sacks, helped the Bears win six NFC Central Division titles and was an instrumental part of the 1985 defense that many consider to be the best in NFL history.
McMichael was a two-time first-team All-Pro, a three-time second-team All-Pro and a two-time Pro Bowler. He was named the 19th best player in Bears history in 2019 by writers Don Pierson and Dan Pompei in the Chicago Bears Centennial Scrapbook.
