CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Bengals officially cleared cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt and Khalid Kareem on Wednesday, opening the 21-day practice window for them to return to the active roster.

“Particularly for week one, it’s (to) get them back into the flow of playing football,” coach Zac Taylor said. “I think they’re both in really good shape. They had to be at the four weeks obviously because of the IR, but I think that they’re in a really good spot physically. Now it’s just getting back into hearing the play calls and participating in the defense and special teams and getting back into the flow of things that way.”

Taylor-Britt, the team’s second-round pick in this year’s draft, played at Nebraska and impressed with a 4.38 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine in February. He was put on IR on Sept. 2 with an abdomen injury.

Kareem, a fifth-round pick from Notre Dame in 2020, played in seven games last season and registered eight total tackles. In his career, he has 23 games played with 26 tackles and one sack. He was put on IR on Sept. 1 with a hamstring injury.

Both players were present at practice on Wednesday.

Additionally, Taylor seemed optimistic about the outlook of offensive tackle La’el Collins, who has been dealing with a back injury that has left his status in question for the team’s last two games.

Collins will receive “vet days” on Wednesdays moving forward, in the hope of keeping him fresh throughout the season.
