Independence Primary School has created a Makerspace to enhance learning for students.  A Makerspace is a physical space where tools and materials are available for building and creating. Under the guidance of Computer Teacher, Kerry Morosko, fourth grade students had the opportunity to access the materials. They participated in the use of various high-tech and low-tech equipment while collaborating to solve problems, explore and build.  The plan is for each grade to take part in the Makerspace as the school year continues.

The Makerspace includes cutting edge equipment such as a 3D printer, Little Bits, a Dash robot which is programmed through a coding app, a Vex Robot, to be built and programmed by students, kinetic sand, a Makey Makey and more.  Students are not trained on how to use each piece of equipment through direct instruction, but rather are encouraged to explore and collaborate while the teacher acts as a facilitator.
