Medina Township Fiscal Officer Linda DeHoff is running unopposed this November.
DeHoff was appointed earlier this year to replace the former fiscal officer who left in March for personal reasons. In order to keep that seat, she will be elected this fall. Her term, however, won’t start until March 31 and will run for four years.
Her duties include the township’s budget, taxes, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliation and worker’s compensation. The trustees outsource their payroll to a private company, but DeHoff wants to bring that back as a township responsibility in her next term.
A certified veterinary technician, DeHoff works full-time at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo as the hospital administrator. She also teaches part-time at Cuyahoga Community College’s western campus in Parma.
She said, “It takes more than 20 hours to do this job. I try to put in as much time here as I can, at least one or two (full) days a week and after work. Some fiscal officers take it home; I like being here. It’s work. You’re not just typing out checks and paying bills.”
She said she already had experience working on the government accounting system and experience volunteering in the township. She has served on the Board of Zoning Appeals and as an alternate on the Zoning Board.
“I live here in the township,” she said. “I’ve always felt I wanted to give something back. This is another way I can be involved. I like all the people around here. I just enjoy doing this kind of stuff.”
When asked what she wants the voters to know about her this election season, she replied, “I’m honest. They don’t have to worry about scandals. I live in the township. I support the township. I love it out here. I’m going watch over their money. I want to make sure the taxpayers get everything they are entitled to.
“If they have a question or need to contact me, I have an open-door policy. I’ll answer their questions. I’m here for the people.”
