Tim Allen “Likes” the Idea of Doing a ‘Home Improvement’ Reboot 19 Years Later!
Calling all Home Improvement fans! The sitcom’s star, Tim Allen, just opened up about doing a reboot of the hit series — and revealed he “likes” the idea a lot.
When asked about doing a revival by Entertainment Tonight, he replied, “I like that idea.” Tom played Tim Taylor on Home Improvement from 1991 until 1999. The show also starred Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Patricia Richardson, Zachery Ty Bryan, Taran Noah Smith, Richard Karn, and more.
Tom also shared how the cast would feel about bringing the show back to TV after nearly 20 years. “I can’t say everybody, but it has been floated. And more than I would have expected said, ‘Yeah, that would be cool to do it years later,’ like Roseanne,” he said.
And while he’d love to bring Home Improvement back to life, he still misses the show he worked on years after Home Improvement, Last Man Standing. “I still miss Last Man Standing. We didn’t get our seventh year. I adored that show. It’s like having a new dog and now to go back to the old dog? I don’t know. I like both characters, but yeah, I’d be very interested in that idea,” he shared.
Last Man Standing was previously canceled in May after six seasons. Tim took to Twitter at the time to express his dismay. “Stunned and blindsided by the network I called home for the last six years. #LastManStanding,” he wrote.
ABC insisted the cancellation was just due to scheduling conflicts. “A large part of these jobs are managing failure and we’ve made the tough calls and canceled shows that we’d otherwise love to stay on the air,” ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey said upon the news reveal.
“That’s the job. I canceled Last Man Standing for the same business and scheduling reasons that I canceled Dr. Ken, The Real O’Neals, The Catch, and American Crime. And Last Man Standing was a challenging one for me because it was a steady performer in the ratings, but once we made the decision not to continue with comedies on Fridays, that was where we landed,” she continued. Honestly, we’d be happy with either Home Improvement or Last Man Standing coming back — or both!
