Review: Sundays Beach Club
Photos

Set the scene for us: What do you see as you arrive at this club?
The magic begins before you reach the beach: Entrance is through the Ungasan resort, where you take a spectacular funicular ride down jungle-covered cliffs backdropped by the turquoise of the lagoon. A trio of thatched rooftops then peek out from the coconut palms before you finally set foot on what might just be Bali’s most beautiful white sand beach. Exchange $25 entrance ticket for a drinks credit, then sit back on a sun lounger, sip, swim—and repeat.
Cool. Who tends to come here?
Honeymooners snorkeling and local holidaymakers lingering around long lunches. At sunset, Sundays draws a crowd around a bonfire.
So we're ready to, as you put it, sit back in a lounge chair—what should we grab to drink?
Signature cocktails are built around tropical fruits; there's also a menu of classics. Look out for the giant, overflowing daiquiris and rum-based tiki specials.
If we need a little bite to eat, what does the kitchen do best?
Snacks like duck or tempura lobster bao buns; larger plates like poke bowls and barramundi tacos for lunch and grilled lobster and orecchiette with braised octopus for dinner.
How's the service?
It would be hard for anyone not to enjoy spending their days in such a rarefied natural setting, and this applies to the staff, too. Everyone is attentive enough to double-check orders before putting them through, which means guests are happy.
Sounds great. So why would you recommend this place, among all the beach clubs in Bali?
This place is perfect whenever you’re craving a pristine, trash-less beach—a rarity on volcanic Bali—right on the island’s southern tip. It’s a special treat, and you could do much worse than spending your last day in Bali at Sundays—whatever day of the week it might be.
