Indira Gandhi International Airport’s Terminal 3 (T3) ‘lifted off’ in New Delhi back in July 2010; taking with it all international airlines and their operations. And effective 14 November, this super-swank airspace also saw a transfer in operations for Air India, Kingfisher and Jet Airways—full service domestic carriers. T3, a state-of-the-art and integrated terminal, is the world’s eighth largest passenger terminal with a capacity to handle over 34 million passengers annually. This two-tier building—with the bottom floor designated for arrivals and mezzanine for departures—has 168 check-in counters, 78 aerobridges at 48 contact stands, 30 parking bays, 72 immigration counters and 15 X-ray screening areas. Now, terminal 1D of the old airport will be used exclusively by low cost carrier airlines like GoAir and SpiceJet.
