Another show is leaving Universal Orlando Resort after one month since Blue Man Group announced that they are leaving the resort as well.  It was confirmed that “A Day in the Park with Barney” will be closed permanently via Twitter.

The children’s show is located in Universal Studios’ Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone.  This land is the home of older attractions like the E.T. Adventure, Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster, Fievel’s Playland and Curious George Goes to Town water play area.  The show has been a part of Universal Orlando for last 25 years.

A Day in the Park with Barney debuted in 1995 on the former site of The Bates Motel set used in Psycho IV: The Beginning.  Barney was the staple show among Children’s programming.  Over the years, the appeal and attractions of Barney began to disappear as the TV show vanished from airwaves and products featuring the purple dinosaur were no longer found on store shelves.

A Day in the Park with Barney invited children and their families to sing along with several popular songs from the TV shows with the help of multiple atmospheric effects.  It was a great way to relive the nostalgic times for the adults as well the kids to learn the new songs.

The attractions’s preshow has forgetful-minded character Mr. Peekaboo or Mrs. Peekaboo who would sing and dance before telling guest to use their imagination to get to Barney’s park.  Once the guests get to the park, Barney, Baby Bop, and B.J. would appear to sing fun and educational songs.  Toward the end of the show, Barney would bid farewell with his iconic song, “I Love You”.  Guests would exit the theater and experience Barney’s Backyard play and gift shop.

Check out the advertisement when A Day in the Park with Barney first premiered at Universal Studios in 1995 below.

Since moving down to Florida and introducing my kids to Barney several times, they enjoyed the show and the indoor play area.  It is a cool atmosphere for the little ones.  The indoor play area has water area, music area, physical agility area, and more.  It was a great place to play once it get really hot outside in the Florida heat.  It was an experience that I’m glad my kids got see before it’s gone for good.
