We stand firm that size comes secondary to skill (and, perhaps, enthusiasm). But, in some rare cases, more is more, and on that front, magic wands deliver.
When compared with other styles of sex tech, the lengthy vibrators offer more power across a wider area. And, if opting for the mains-fuelled variety, unwavering attention down there.
Despite first hitting the market in the ‘60s — Japanese brand Hitachi launched a ‘body massager’ that fans found an alternate use for — we’re not over this sex toy type just yet. In fact, demand’s at an all-time high, resulting in every sex shop now racing to put a unique spin on the classic clitoral vibrator.
But the stress of choosing a playmate can be enough to have you wishing for a vanishing act. Thankfully, our sex writers have scoured the virtual shelves and tested a bunch of wands to see which will have you screaming ‘abracadabra’ in a matter of minutes.
So, stay tuned for our sex writers’ rundown of the best magic wand vibrators, plus our top tips for assisted success under the sheets.

How we test the best magic wand vibrators
Let’s just say that working from home took on a whole new meaning for this project. Our sex writers, along with some willing volunteers, were each given a selection of vibrators to test in various sexual positions and locations (bedroom, bathroom, hotel balcony), both with and without their partner(s).
We asked them to consider multiple factors including battery life, noise level, the variety of modes, and the flexibility of their techy teasers before deciding, ultimately, if they would reach for their wand again in the future.
Our writers and editors occupy various positions on the gender identity and sexuality spectrums. At the time of testing, they were aged between 22 and 46 and had differing levels of experience with sex toys. Yep, we roped in everyone from total beginners to connoisseurs.
11 best magic wand vibrators for women and people with vulvas in 2024
From pint-sized sidekicks to dual-ended vibrators that double as massage guns, here are the magic wand vibrators our sex writers (highly) recommend.
Knude Society Wanda
Knude Society is a female-founded brand which should absolutely be on your radar — particularly if you like pastel-hued playthings that aren’t particularly phallic or pricey. They’re also super beginner-friendly — simply hocus pocus any of the vibrators at your clitoris and wait for your speedy ascent to orgasmic ecstasy.
The brand’s newest launch, known as Wanda, is a pint-sized version of the iconic wand vibrator — except this one comes with *options*. As well as 20 vibration modes to work your way through, both ends of this magic wand can be used to deliver (delightful) external vibrations.
Then onto that coffee bean-shaped head. While you might think to angle it at 90 degrees to the body to spread the sensations, we suggest you lay it parallel for more pinpointed pleasure.
Girls Get Off Wanda
The fact that Barbie (and maybe Ken) would probably opt for this blush wand has us immediately sold — and that was before we spotted the curved handle which follows your hand’s natural contours, meaning it’s comfortable to grip during lengthy liaisons (confirmed by one of our sex writers).
Kiwi-based brand Girls Get Off claims Wanda, the latest addition to its collection of pink clit suckers and vibrators, is quiet enough to keep your evening activities a secret from your unsuspecting roomie — although we would suggest a Netflix backing track just to be safe.
In terms of power and battery life, she scored highly across the board — and shoppers agree. Talking of the wand’s 10 modes (consisting of five intensities and five pulsing patterns), one wrote: “Although I’m usually a constant buzz kind of woman, I enjoyed level nine the most — oh my, so edging.”
LELO SMART WAND 2 All-Over Body Massager
Our love story with LELO continues. While the Swedish sexual wellness brand may be known for its plethora of clitoral pleasers (the SILA is our sex writer’s ride-or-die), it’s also mastered the magic wand.
With the large version of this body massager (it successfully doubles as a massage gun, saving you space and cash) almost hitting 12 inches, we tend to recommend the medium. But for those who like it big, bold, and bountiful (that applies to the orgasms it induces, too), the option is there.
The medium, at 8.3 inches long and weighing 155 grams, comes pre-programmed with 10 settings, each tailorable in intensity. Our testers rated three and five as their favourites; the first a speedy persistent pulse and the latter a slower, oscillating rhythm.
Lovehoney Deluxe Mini Massage Wand Vibrator
Built for beginners — or experienced players who want to take their techy teaser away with them — Lovehoney’s Deluxe Mini Wand couldn’t be easier to use, thanks to that trio of buttons. Simply hit the wave to change mode, before using the +/– to customise the intensity (you’ve got a choice of 10).
Fitted with a slightly smaller head than Knude Society’s Wanda or LELO’s SMART WAND, this is good for those who prefer pinpointed pleasure, while the flexible neck means it bends and bows to follow the body’s natural contours.
Our only complaint? The hard-plastic, metallic handle is a little slippery when wet, so beware when using it in the tub. But yes, it’s splashproof, and will effortlessly level up your next everything shower. Enjoy.
Lovehoney 3-Speed Micro Magic Wand Vibrator
She’s small enough to fit inside Taylor’s fave bag and could totally pass as a massage gun when your landlord/flatmate/mum spots it at your bedside, but this Lovehoney offering also scores highly, at least among team Cosmo, for sexual pleasure.
For fans of the brand’s Deluxe wand, this even more mini version packs all the same benefits, including a super flexible neck and rounded head that glides effortlessly across the skin with a little water-based lube.
The main differences are its size — the Micro measures up at just 4.5 inches, compared to the Deluxe’s 7.5 — and the fact this has just three speeds. Essentially, if you like a persistent pulse and get overwhelmed by a million options, this is the vibe for you.
Doxy Original Wand Massager
We’ll save you hours of scrolling for wank-spiration: the Doxy Wand is basically every sex blogger’s favourite sexual aid. Packing 30% more power than the OG Hitachi Massage Wand, this has set the bar for intense — and uninterrupted, due to the fact it’s mains-powered — vibrations. Granted, you will have to consider the cable when getting into/out of more aerobic positions, but at three meters long, you’ve got plenty of length to work with.
The stronger and longer-length head (it’s crafted from cast metal that’s then coated in super-soft silicone) means it can be used at any angle, delivering between 3,000 and 9,000 RPMs per minute. Simply alter the intensity (but not the pattern, sorry lads) with a quick hit on the triple controls.
For the eco-conscious, you’ll also be pleased to know that ordering one of these won’t rack up your air miles, with the bulky pulsers being made right here in the UK, near the coast in Cornwall.
Ricky’s Ultimate Wand Massager Vibrator
In 2024 we shouldn’t be forced to choose between our C- and G-spot. So, rather than having to raid your toy box for a pair of playthings to alternate between, we suggest investing in a toy that does it all... and well.
Ricky’s (bestselling) massager works not only as a magic wand, with that longer, wider head hitting every external erogenous zone with ease, but also as an internal vibe. Hence why the other end boasts a second motor and a tapered tip.
With up to 20 possible pulsing combinations (easily accessible via the twin buttons), our testers had zero complaints. Literally none. Except, you know, deciding what to do with the rest of their preloved sex toys, now permanently relegated to the sidelines.
Ann Summers Self Love Massage Wand
When trawling the virtual shelves for magic wands, one thing became clear. With every sex shop putting its spin on the classic vibrator, many stick with a smooth silicone head — and rightly so; it’s primed for gliding across the skin and delivering uniform pressure across the chosen area.
However, textured heads can amplify the sensations you feel at the skin’s surface, which is why we were keen to try Ann Summers’ diamond-adorned option. The result: several satisfied testers who raved about bigger, speedier orgasms.
Part of the British brand’s Self Love Collection, which offers a variety of vibes in a rainbow of fun hues, the assumption is fans would use this primarily for solo sessions. However, our testers also confirmed it was a fun addition to partnered play — and more specifically, ball play.
Iroha Temari Hana Massager
We weren’t wrong when we said that brands tend to stay pretty true to form — because why mess with something that *definitely* isn’t broken?
However, Tenga’s sister brand Iroha has manifested a wand vibrator that looks totally unlike those before it. The designers’ logic: by encasing the moving, shaking motor inside a silicone ball and then a plastic case — think of it like a sultry Russian doll — the motion felt by the holder’s hand should be minimal. Essentially, no numbing.
However, our fave addition was the discreet case that should attract minimal questions from airport security — and if they do ask, it’s a Bluetooth speaker.
As a vibrator, it doesn’t offer the most extensive range of options, but certainly enough to get you off. We’re talking four intensities that we’d label gentlest, gentle, medium, and full pelt, plus two repetitive pulsing patterns.
The only thing to note is the slightly chalky feel of that silicone. It’s not unpleasant, but you will need a generous dose of lube if you plan on gliding it across the skin. Otherwise, we can pretty much guarantee it’ll stay put.
Lovehoney Extra Powerful Magic Wand Vibrator
Sophie, our Sex and Relationships Senior Ecommerce Writer’s verdict: “Being a total commitment-phobe — hence I relish in a job that offers up new options daily — the thought of being tethered to the wall just didn’t appeal.”
“However, I’m a total convert. I could wax lyrical about the dedicated attention on offer with this device — essentially, it’s set the bar for any man far too high. Guess I’ll have to resign myself to a lifetime of wand action.”
Roam The Wand
Okay, so up until this point we’ve told you that magic wand vibrators are almost exclusively for external play — unless they’re double-ended, we’d avoid slipping them inside.
However, Roam’s Wand can be used on any pleasure zone, including the hidden G, thanks to its slim width and flexible frame. And that spherical head? Well, that works to send nano-vibrations (gentler movements that should travel further throughout your body) in every direction.
The only niggle from our testers was about the single-button controls — they didn’t love that you have to cycle through all nine (customisable) modes to get back to the one you want. However, the control panel’s position on the base does mean you rarely hit it unless you intend to.
What is a wand vibrator?
As a concept, the wand vibrator has been around for a while, with Japanese brand Hitachi launching the first in 1968.
Labelling the device a ‘body massager’, we’re not entirely sure if the brand intended to spark a sex tech revolution. Instead, horny stay-at-home housewives are often credited for discovering its clit-stimulating powers.
But what exactly is a magic wand vibrator?
“A wand vibrator is an electronic massager with a long handle and wide, rounded tip designed to offer sexual stimulation,” explains sex and relationship expert, Dr Tara.
But what are the benefits of using a magic wand vibrator over other clitoral vibrators?
“First, they’re typically very powerful so you’re guaranteed to be stimulated to the max,” continues Tara. Essentially, it’s great for those who need a little extra oomph or want to explore their limits of sexual stimulation.
Tara, one of the resident experts on Channel 4’s Celebs Go Dating, also suggests the shape of the toy’s handle has a lot to do with its success.
“The long handle is easy to hold and grip, so whether you’re a beginner or advanced user, when it comes to using a vibrator for masturbation, you will be able to handle the wand.”
And let’s not overlook that rounded head: “The head of the wand is usually wide and rounded, making it easy to find the right spot for stimulation since it covers such a big area. The whole vulva gets some love!”
What to look for in a magic wand vibrator
Aesthetics aside (because we know you’ve got a colour palette in mind), the material, modes, and multi-functionality — AKA whether you can take it in the shower — of your chosen vibe should all be considered before hitting the checkout.
Material
She’s a material girl... meaning she only invests in sex toys made from body-safe or medical-grade silicone that don’t interfere with your downstairs. You also want a non-porous plaything that’s easy to clean and won’t harbour bacteria.
“The sex toy industry is not well regulated, so there are many toys out there that are not made with materials that are safe for your body. These can cause discomfort and irritation,” explains Tara.
Power
You’ve got two options: rechargeable or mains-powered. Both have their perks — for example, the latter never runs out of charge and typically packs a little more power but isn’t so portable — so it’s about picking what best suits your sexual antics.
Dunk-ability
You might expect all vibrators to be (at least) splashproof considering squirting is very much a reality for some. But it’s not a given. Luckily, retailers often mark their teasers as either splashproof, water-resistant, or waterproof.
“There are benefits in using a sex toy during your shower/bath time — one being it’s completely private,” says Tara. “If you have kids or nosy siblings, shower masturbation is probably already in your repertoire.”
“It’s also a sensual time,” she continues. “A hot bath can help you relax and perhaps create a desire to pleasure yourself. I know it has happened to me quite a few times!”
Options
As mentioned, most sex shops have rethought the classic sex toy, offering wands fitted with a variety of moving modes. The key thing to consider is whether you want a million different options or a reliable few you regularly rotate between.
Top tips for total beginners
No judgement if you’re a vibrator virgin — it’s a personal choice to involve techy teasers. But if you are new to mechanical masturbation and aren’t sure where to start, Tara has shared some useful guidelines:
Start small...
“It’s better to start with a smaller wand so that it’s not too overwhelming for you. Especially as a beginner.”
... and low/slow
“Try the lowest setting first to see what it feels like and increase the intensity slowly if you wish. You can also stay at the same intensity the whole time, it’s not a requirement to up the speed.”
Breathe
“Take deep breaths while you use the wand. It will allow you to feel the sensations in your body more deeply.”
Clean up
“Clean your wand afterwards. We’re hygienic girlies!”
This is a friendly reminder that cleaning your toys is essential to prevent bacteria, dust, and distracting scents from disturbing your next round of play.
This can be easily done with warm, soapy water or an antibacterial spray.
