Pristine director and property manager Kristine Vance informed residents via email that they were required to return keys to the office and that once received, the rent and bond return process would commence.
In a Facebook post – the Campaspe News attempted to contact Kristine Vance, but was unable to do so at time of publication – she said: “I wish we didn’t have to put this post up, however, it seems we do need to.
“It is with much heartbreak and many tears that due to the flood inundation in many of our renters’ homes we have been forced to serve them with notices to vacate their properties.
“This is required by legislation. This is to protect the health and well-being of all renters as it has had blackwater go through their homes making them uninhabitable.”
Ms Vance said gas, electricity, mould and repairs to any damage would all have to be rectified before it was deemed safe for renters to return.
In the post she said that once properties were repaired they would be offered back to the renters.
Renters were advised that any rent paid already passed 13 October would be refunded, along with their bonds.
In the post she said: “It is absolutely gut wrenching to issue these notices in an already horrible situation, it is absolutely not something we want to do.
“We have finally be able to open our doors today and assess the damage of our office, which is just absolutely gut wrenching.
"Our hearts are feeling for all our renters and owners as driving in many areas of the town just shows the horrible impact we have had.“
