Mowing the lawn can cause a lot of arguments - from whose job it is to when and how often it should be done.

And a mum has stirred the debate wide open, dividing opinion after asking other parents if it's reasonable to mow the lawn at 8am.

She asked users on Mumsnet whether it would be acceptable to get out in the garden for a trim before the sun comes up - making the point that she is "frankly knackered" by the time the grass is in the shade in the evening.

And she also said delivery drivers and builders can often "make a racket" at that time, especially when compared to her "very quiet electric mower".

But responses were divided.

Is it okay to mow the lawn before 8am?

500+ VOTES SO FAR

She wrote in her post: "We have a very quiet electric mower.

"And most mornings there are delivery lorries/ vans making a racket at 8 (the whole street seems to be extending their house atm, we have a builder's lorry almost every day and they always come early).

"The sun is in the back garden until gone 6pm. I work until 2.30 and by the time the grass is in the shade, I'm frankly knackered."

Before ending her post: "Would it really BU [be unreasonable] to give it a quick mow at 8?"

Reaction

Whilst a few mums thought it was fine, others said it was way too early.

One said: "Weekdays fine. Weekend no!"

Another added: "I’d be fine with it, but then my neighbour's gardener starts at eight."

A third commented: "Wouldn't bother me."

But one person said: "I get up at 6am so I'm an early riser but I wouldn't mow the lawn until at least 9am!"

Another admitted: "Unreasonable l think. Put it this way l would fuming."

"Too early. People need sleep," said another.
