Coventry City’s man of the moment Viktor Gyokeres would walk straight into half a dozen top flight teams right now, claims an EFL pundit.

The Sky Blues striker has been the talk of the Championship this season along with former City loan man Chuba Akpom who is leading the division’s scoring charts with 21 (22 in all competitions) for Middlesbrough.

City’s Swede took his goal tally to 17 (18 in all competitions) at the weekend with a brace to help Mark Robins’ men sink Huddersfield Town 4-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium, and closing the gap to sixth placed Norwich City to just three points with 11 games left to play this term.

Gyokeres has been picked out for mention by virtually every manager that has come up against him in recent weeks, with Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray recently likening his style to that of Erling Haaland after he helped secure victory over the Black Cats at the CBS Arena.

Meanwhile, pundits have been purring over his power and pace, with the ITV4’s EFL highlights show’s Jamie Mackie claiming the centre-forward is the “full package,” while his regular sidekick, Sam Parkin, has gone a step further.

Asked if he feels Gyokeres is ready for the Premier League, the former Ipswich and Luton striker said: “I could probably name about six teams in the Premier League where he would get in straight away now, this minute.”

Speaking on the What the EFL? podcast when asked if the Sky Blues’ hitman was capable of playing in the league above, he added: “He’s better than the strikers that a lot of clubs at the bottom of the table, in the middle of the table, so yes is my answer.”
