Update: Investigation involving employees at White Yellow Cross and Social Insurance Bank

WILLEMSTAD - Senior officials of the White Yellow Cross Foundation (WGK) and the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) are involved in the Girasol case, which includes suspicion of falsifying documents and misuse of subsidy funds and money laundering.

It appears that two of the four people who have been arrested are a married couple, one of which is general manager and chairman of the Board of Directors of WGK and the other is said to be the head of the Collection Control and Administration section of the SVB.

Five house searches and four arrests have been made in connection with a major financial investigation, the so-called Girasol case. That happened in the night from Thursday to Friday last week, according to the Public Prosecution Service (OM).

The raids were carried out in the Van Engelen area, where the Curaçao-born woman L.P.G.C. (48) was arrested and the man C.E.C. (55). In the Kwartier district, 54-year-old Curaçaoan A.S.V.I. was arrested and at Sunset Heights the Curaçaoan wife C.O.G. (45).

The released initials of the first two persons correspond with those of general director and also chairman of the Board of Directors Linda Peggy-Ann Gout-Cijntje, born in Curaçao in 1972, of WGK. The SVB official is Crescel Cijntje. According to his LinkedIn, he has been working for the SVB for 24 years, which has also been raided.

Documents were seized, the SVB confirms. The person arrested in Kwartier is consultant Ashley Isidora, also known from the Lacerta case in which bribes have been requested in the search for a new strategic partner for the Isla refinery. In the Lacerta case, Isidora, who was a consultant at Refineria di Kòrsou, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison.

The case has yet to be appealed. Then what remains is the woman who was arrested in Sunset Heights. According to sources, it concerns Charmine Ortela-Gabriel, the head of Financial Administration at WGK.

A search was also carried out at "a foundation that receives a subsidy from the government", as the press release from the police and the judiciary describes it. This concerns the Foundation of the White Yellow Cross for Home Care "Princess Margriet", as WGK is called in full.

Finally, four luxury cars were seized, as well as cash and documents important to the investigation. “The suspects have been brought to trial and are now in police custody pending the investigation. Further arrests in the coming days are not ruled out,” said KPC and OM.

WGK is the largest organization that provides home care in Curaçao. It says it is the only ISO-certified home care organization in Curaçao "and we consider it an important task to guarantee quality to our clients," the website reports.

The activities of the foundation are currently carried out by approximately 320 staff members who are divided into different departments.
