
BoCoPreps 10&10: Week 1 of winter sports from Broomfield, Boulder and Longmont areas

Broomfield girls’ swimming: The Eagles won Windsor’s 11-team Candy Cane Invite on Saturday. Myra Wherry (500-yard freestyle), Ellie Foulke (200 IM) and Marbury Wherry (200 freestyle) won individual events for the Eagles, who also took first in the 200-yard medley relay.
Broomfield girls’ wrestling: The Eagles finished third out of 20 teams at the Poudre Shooting Stars Invite over the weekend. Breezy Johnston (130-pound weight class) and Shayla Martinez (190s) won their brackets. Abigail Borden (105s), Kaliyah Schimpf (145s) and Lizette Cedillo (155s) took second.
Frederick boys’ wrestling: The Golden Eagles finished third at the 20-team Columbine Varsity Invite on Saturday. Diego Rangel won the 165-pound bracket, while Lex Meadows placed second at 120s.
Mead girls’ basketball: The Mavericks beat Erie, 34-33, on Saturday for their sixth straight win to open the season. They’ve allowed on average 39 points per game.
Monarch ice hockey: The Coyotes (3-0-1), who were ranked fourth in CHSAA’s preseason poll, tied No. 10 Chaparral on Thursday before beating No. 1 Valor Christian, 3-2, on Saturday. Jaren Ng scored the game-winner on the power play with 8:21 remaining.
Niwot girls’ basketball: The Cougars beat Gateway and Smoky Hill last week to improve to 4-1 on the season. That start is the program’s best since it began the 2021-22 season 4-1.
Peak to Peak boys’ basketball: The Pumas (4-0) remained undefeated on the season with a 65-52 win over Basalt on Saturday. They’ll host Holy Family (1-1) Saturday morning.
Silver Creek boys’ basketball: The Raptors improved to 6-0 on the season, beating Hinkley by 68 on Tuesday, then Littleton by 39 on Wednesday. Juniors Connor Bonsett (10.5 points per game) and Blake Gorr (10.2) are leading them in scoring.
Silver Creek girls’ swimming: The Raptors are 4-0 in duals this season. In a win over Longmont on Wednesday, senior Hadley Larson (50 and 500-yard freestyle) and freshman Juliet Story (200 IM and 100 breaststroke) each won two individual events.
Skyline boys’ wrestling: The Falcons took fourth out of 15 teams at the Denver North Invite over the weekend. Tobias Pinson (144-pound weight class) and Lucas Anson (150) each recorded four pins to win gold.
10 athletes
Camden Austin, Holy Family boys’ wrestling: The 215-pounder won his bracket at the Western Slope Showdown over the weekend. All his wins came by a pin within the first three minutes of the match.
Alexandra Eschmeyer, Peak to Peak girls’ basketball: The star senior is averaging 23.4 points and 13.4 rebounds through five of her team’s six games this season. The Pumas (5-1) won twice last week and she had 55 points and 28 rebounds across them.
Sam Esposito, Centaurus boys’ basketball: The senior is averaging 19.2 points through six games for the Warriors (4-2). He scored 29 in a win over Pomona on Tuesday.
Reece Gilpatrick, Broomfield girls’ basketball: The 6-foot-4 freshman is already making noise. In a 78-62 win over Mountain Vista, she scored 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting and had seven rebounds. The Eagles are 4-0.
Cole Morrow, Boulder boys’ basketball: The senior is averaging 20.6 points per game through five of the six games listed for the Panthers (2-4). He scored 31 in a 96-37 win over Summit on Dec. 9.
Olivia Mortensen, Legacy girls’ basketball: Mortensen is averaging 26 points and 15.8 rebounds through her first five games of the season for the Lightning (3-2). She had 41 points and 13 boards in a win over Castle View on Dec. 5, then had 33 and 22 in a loss to Chatfield on Friday.
Jimeto Orji, Jefferson Academy boys’ basketball: The junior, at 14.2 points and 11.6 rebounds, is averaging a double-double early on for the Jaguars (4-1). He had 20 points and 14 boards in a 49-47 win over The Academy on Saturday.
Brayde Patik, Centaurus girls’ swimming: In a dual win over Niwot on Tuesday, the junior won the 50 and 200-yard freestyles, both in state-qualifying marks. Patik splits time between high school swimming and water polo.

Kayah Robbins, Prospect Ridge Academy girls’ basketball: The senior is averaging 17.6 points and 16.8 rebounds this season for the Miners (3-2). She had double-doubles in wins over Stargate School and Arvada last week. In her opener on Dec. 5, she had 25 and 33 in a win over Jefferson.
Sienna Williams, Monarch girls’ basketball: Williams is averaging 22.5 points and 19.3 rebounds through four games listed for the Coyotes (2-3). She had 23 points and 17 boards in a win over Arvada West on Tuesday.
