00:00Fighting robots may have historically looked a little something like this but
00:07now researchers want to make it life-size and more lifelike. This is
00:11Robert Griffin from the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition and this is
00:15the boxing robot his team have been working on named Nadia. It's controlled
00:19by a human and they're hoping that showcasing its boxing capabilities will
00:22reveal how capable a robot like this really is. In this video we're not
00:26actually running arms nearly as fast as they can go they're not really hitting
00:30very hard either. So how hard can it hit? Well that's the thing they don't really
00:34know yet. Well these new arms are really strong you know we haven't actually
00:37fully measured how strong they are you know we haven't really done tests by
00:41seeing how much they can lift or how hard they can push but we haven't
00:44actually come close to pushing the limits on its strength you know we don't
00:47actually know how much weight could the robot lift how much can it curl anything
00:51like that. Griffin says he thinks it could be at least 30% faster and punch
00:55at least 30% harder but that's not really their goal. He and his team want
00:59to replace humans who do dangerous jobs like disaster cleanup with robots
01:03controlled by those very individuals meaning they want one-to-one input
01:06control movement speed and mobility to be the endgame. Pretty cool and in the
01:10meantime we can't help but hope this inspires a new competitive sport
