Alien hunters have now been given an optimum time and place in the US to see UFO activity.

And one major city has topped the lot as America's supernatural hotspot, with a whopping 323 sightings in the last decade. Using data from the National UFO Reporting Center, BetUS has been able to compile a list of the areas to visit if you fancy seeing ET. Their findings have even provided the lowdown on areas notorious for their connection to visitors from outer space including Area 51, Nevada and Roswell, New Mexico.

Roswell, dubbed the "UFO capital of the world", is believed to be near the site of an alleged alien spaceship crash in 1947 known as the Roswell Incident.

While the super secretive military base, Area 51, is one of the most notorious zones for alien conspiracy theories.

But neither of those hotbeds of alleged extraterrestrial engagements topped the list for the best places to be to see unidentified aerial phenomena.

In fact that title goes to Phoenix, Arizona, with New York City coming in a close second place with 313 reported incidents.

Even though Nevada is the home of Area 51 and secured third place with 309 reports, it's clear that Phoenix, known for the famous 'Phoenix Lights' sighting by multitudes on March 13, 1997 has long fascinated those chasing close encounters.

Fast forward to 2016, residents in Gilbert, just southeast of Phoenix, reported witnessing a peculiar trio of lights moving from north to south in the East Valley area.

On this date, hundreds of people reported seeing 'The Phoenix Lights'.

Adding to the mystery in 2019, a live-stream just outside Phoenix captured a purple beam of light piercing through the foreground, with multiple supposed UFOs spotted darting across the night sky.

Other cities topping the list for UFO sightings include Portland, Oregon, coming in fourth with 279 reports, and Tuscon, Arizona, securing fifth place with 244 sightings.

Many of the cities mentioned were notably large, suggesting more potential observers scanning the skies and thus increasing the chances of a possible sighting.

On the West Coast, six California cities made it onto the list of 200 - with Los Angeles holding the state's highest ranking at seventh place, boasting 222 sightings.

According to BetUS, July is the prime time to spot a UFO in New York, Ohio, Colorado and Oregon - with the most sightings occurring between 9pm and 10pm.

For states like California and Arizona, November is reportedly the best month for sky-watching.
