Aldi to bring back Cuthbert the Caterpillar cakes with profits going to charity

Although Cuthbert the Caterpillar has been in a little trouble recently, Aldi has announced it will bring back the chocolate cake back in stores from Monday

Mmm don't we all love chocolate cake?

The good news is that Aldi has announced it will be stocking its famous Cuthbert the Caterpillar in stores again from Monday.

It comes after Marks and Spencer took legal action over the cake as it had similar characteristics to Colin the Caterpillar.

The chain argued the similarity of Aldi's product leads consumers to believe they are chocolate cakes are of the same standard.

Aldi stopped selling the cake for a period of time before announcing its return to supermarket shelves from May 17.

And it has made Cuthbert do a charity skydive from 40,000ft, highlighting the #CaterpillarsForCancer campaign to raise money.

Now Aldi's caterpillar has its own JustGiving page for fans to donate and money from the sales of the cake which will go to charity.

Cuthbert cakes will be in all Aldi stores from Monday and each one will cost £4.99.

The treats will be limited edition so if you fancy a slice of the action you better get your hands on one quick.

Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi, said: "Cuthbert has been the centre of global media attention.

He added: "We felt a dramatic return was called for to celebrate him coming back to our stores. And it doesn't get more dramatic than jumping from the sky at 50mph.

"Our loyal shoppers have really backed Cuthbert during these last few weeks and we can't wait to bring a limited edition version of him back to reunite him with his fans and thank everyone for their support, while also raising money for charity, including our partner Teenage Cancer Trust."

Since the news was announced, fans expressed their excitement for the caterpillar's return.

One joked: "See? You'd never get Colin doing that," another added: "Go Cuthbert you are brilliant."
