Free-to-play console football game eFootball is closing in on a billion downloads.
The hit sim has celebrated reaching the milestone of 750million downloads worldwide across all platforms so far.
And numbers are expected to climb as the developers at Konami continue to fill the matchday action with a series of in-game events, items, and prizes.
The footie sim launched in September 2021 after a massive revamp from the class Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) franchise.
It got a fair bit of stick at the time over it’s gameplay quality but developers have been increasingly boosting the title ever since over a series of improvements and add-ons.
The latest 2024 edition of the hit PS5 and Xbox Series X title was released last September and featured a host of revamped gameplay tweaks as well as updated teams to bring all the blockbuster real-life transfers into the game.
The game has official licences with the likes of Man Utd, Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and AC Milan, as well as Lazio, Inter and stadia like Wembley.
It means all your favourite stars from those teams are lovingly digitised for you to play in-game, from Gunners ace Bukayo Saka to Reds striker Marcus Rashford.
A Konami spokesman said: “Konami is excited to announce that the flagship football title eFootball has reached 750 million downloads worldwide across all platforms.
“To celebrate this achievement, Konami will run an in-game campaign with a variety of events for users to play and items to collect.
“As part of the campaign, there will be a limited time re-release of the tripartite of Epic cards for eFootball ambassador Lionel Messi, commemorating some of his most memorable performances.
“From 25th April to 16th May, users can log in to eFootball and make the most of a range of events and items as part of the celebration of this major milestone.
“During these three weeks, users can enjoy log in bonuses totalling 70 eFootball coins, seven position training programs, and seven skill training programs.
“They can also receive a free log in present of an FC Barcelona Highlight Lewandowski card – a sure fire way to add goals to users’ Dream Team.
“In addition, via completion of the Campaign Achievements, users can bolster their in-game resources further with a potential haul of 360,000 GP, 250 eFootball coins, 102,000 Exp, five skill programs, and three Highlight: European Clubs Chance Deals.”
It is free to download on consoles now.
