Paddy McGuinness divorce show 'axed' over fears of 'insensitivity' to ex Christine

The BBC has reportedly decided against going ahead with Paddy McGuinness' spoof documentary, which was apparently set to touch on the end of the TV star's marriage

A planned Paddy McGuinness mockumentary has reportedly been dropped so as not to be “insensitive” to the star's ex-wife Christine.

The Top Gear star and model Christine – who have three young children together – broke up in 2022 after 11 years of marriage. Earlier this year British Comedy Guide said that Paddy was making a new show for the BBC that was said to touch on the split.

But a source has now told the Daily Mail: “The BBC has decided not to go ahead with Paddy's mockumentary. Some thought it would be distasteful and insensitive to Christine, and were reluctant to be seen like they were taking sides in the messy break-up.”

In January, the British Comedy Guide said the star was making the pilot, entitled Paddy. It was also set to feature comic Josh Pugh and he revealed on the Have A Word podcast that shooting the programme had been a "very very strange couple of days".

"Paddy McGuinness is doing a spoof documentary of his life and in that documentary he is mentoring me as a stand-up,” he said, adding that it was filmed in an Airbnb. “It's about his divorce." But he added: "I don't think it is going to happen."

A source later told The Sun that Christine had been upset to hear about the mockumentary. “Christine is distraught that their divorce is going to be the butt of the jokes,” the insider claimed at the time.
