FAQ for End Users
At De Gruyter we are sometimes asked similar questions about access, technical requirements, and orders, payments and fulfilment. Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.
If your question is not listed below, please contact our Technical Customer Service. It really helps us to answer your question quickly if you include links, screenshots or any further details that might help us to solve your query.
If you placed an order without a De Gruyter account, we will have set up an account for you. Please go to degruyter.com and click on ‘Log in’ in the top right-hand corner.
You can set your password using the ‘Forgot your password?’ link. Use the email address you used when placing your order and follow the instructions in the email you receive. This will enable you to set your password and log in.
When you have logged in, go to your account on the top right-hand corner of the page.
Click on ‘My publications’ to see links to titles you have ordered.
If you already have a De Gruyter account please log in to see new orders, or use the ‘Forgot your password?’ function to reset your password.
Passcodes are usually made available for society members or editors of journals. They are not available for general access.
Go to https://www.degruyter.com/login. On the next page, you will be given the option to add a passcode using the grey button on the right hand side labelled:
Other Access Methods

Click this button and you can enter your passcode. Once you have logged in you will find your accessible resources in the menu in the top right-hand corner under ‘My publications’.
The reason could be that the title was published by one of our publisher partners.
Due to security concerns most of our partners have requested us to remove the complete PDF for download from the platform, since our eBooks are all DRM free.
Those titles can be read and downloaded chapterwise only.

For all customers:
Please send all orders, inquiries and claims to Customer Service De Gruyter. You will receive a confirmation email with a ticket number.
Important: Please quote this ticket number on any further inquiries about your order.
Orders are processed within 24 hours. Inquiries are responded to within 72 hours.

Outside Germany per 5 kg:
- Printed papers international economy: € 0.47 per shipment plus € 3.90 per kg (not available within the EU)
- Printed papers international priority: € 0.78 per shipment plus € 5.82 per kg
Shipment fees apply worldwide. If no shipping method is specified, the cheapest method will automatically be selected.
Handling usually takes a maximum of 2 days after order processing. Afterwards the following terms apply:

Delivery Times:
Monday collection:
Delivery to shipper in United Kingdom Thursday, shipment departs United Kingdom between Friday and Sunday. depending on flight schedule.
Delivery to United Kingdom customer Friday, latest Monday.
Thursday Collection:
Delivery to shipper in United Kingdom for consolidation on Monday, departure from United Kingdom is then usually Wednesday.
Delivery to United Kingdom customers Tuesday or Wednesday.
As soon as the order has been processed by our invoicing system the ordered item will be transferred to the online account of the end user and notification will be sent out to the email-address specified in the order. The activation may take up to 24 hours after receipt of the confirmation. After access has been activated the purchased content will be marked with a Licensed Access icon and can be used on Degruyter.com.

To receive monthly statements electronically please send your email address to our accounting team.
- Two days after an account has become due the first payment reminder will be sent.
If there is no response from the customer within 14 days a second reminder will be sent.
If there is no response from the customer within a further 14 days a third reminder will be sent and a block will be placed on new deliveries.
After a further 14 days without a response a fourth reminder will be sent and an attempt will be made to collect payment by telephone.
If an invoice remains unpaid after the fourth reminder payment, a collection process will be initiated.
