The U.S. Postal Service is honoring the 50th anniversary of Sesame Street with a line of forever stamps, and the nostalgia is real. Announcing the news in a statement on March 12, the USPS released photos for three upcoming launches. Along with Elmo and friends, they'll debut "Spooky Silhouettes" for Halloween and Tyrannosaurus Rex stamps.
So when can we expect these adorable additions? Although release dates are still unknown, further information and locations for their "first-day-of-issue ceremonies" are reportedly coming soon, the site promises.
"The Postal Service honors Sesame Street as one of the most influential and beloved children's television shows," the statement reads. "For the last 50 years, it has provided educational programming and entertainment for generations of children throughout the country and around the world." The stamps include Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, Rosita, The Count, Oscar the Grouch, Abby Cadabby, Herry Monster, Julia, Guy Smiley, Snuffleupagus, Elmo, Telly, Grover, Zoe, and our personal spirit animal muppet, Cookie Monster. Per the announcement, the limited-release was designed by art director Derry Noyes. Looks like Kermit the Frog didn't make the cut.
And while these festive stamps are a sweet way to celebrate, let's consider this: What would cookie monster do? A feast of on theme popcorn, shakes, cake, and cookies (duh) seem only fitting given the occasion.
