The ultimate guide to Christmas in the Coachella Valley
As the winter holidays arrive, the Coachella Valley will play host to an abundance of merry events for residents and tourists alike.
The Desert Sun has put together a calendar of Coachella Valley holiday events in December, ranging from tree lightings to special Christmas performances.

Dec. 1
The City of Coachella Christmas Tree Lighting will take place at 5:30 p.m. at Coachella City Hall, 1515 Sixth St. The ceremony will feature Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, along with food samples and more.
Dec. 2
The City of Indio Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. at 100 Civic Center Mall. The ceremony will include the lighting of Indio's 14-year-old "Holiday Tree." There will be performances from carolers from Shadow Hills High School, the Academy of Musical Performance and the Desert TheatreWorks' production of "Winter Wonderettes." The Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus will also make an appearance. Attendees will be able to take photos with Santa Claus and enjoy holiday treats.
Dec. 3
The Lights on El Paseo will take place 3-7 p.m. at El Paseo Shopping District in Palm Desert. There will be an annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, carolers, activities for kids, Santa and Mrs. Claus and more. Free. For more information, visit bit.ly/LightsonElPaseo.
The City of La Quinta Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place 6-8 p.m. at Civic Center Park, 78-495 Calle Tampico, La Quinta. The event will include a visit from Santa, musical performances, trackless train, holiday cookies and refreshments, giveaways and more. Free. Visit playinlaquinta.com.
The Gallery Holiday Party will take place 5-7 p.m. at Desert Art Center, 550 N. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs. There will be a new Winter Show in the Main Gallery, along with another special exhibit. The party will have music, a mashed potato bar, refreshments and a sweet-tooth table. For members only. Dec. 4
The Festival of Lights Parade will take place at 5:45 p.m. starting at Ramon Road before heading down Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs. The parade will feature tractors and floats covered in lights, marching bands, performance groups and Santa and Mrs. Claus. Free. The Cathedral City North Pole Village and Mayor's Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place 5-7 p.m. in Downtown Cathedral City. The event includes holiday music, carolers, Santa Claus, the holiday tree lighting ceremony, candy canes, bike giveaways for kids and a free movie at the Mary Pickford Theatre. Free. The Coachella Holiday Parade will take place at 6 p.m. and start at Cesar Chavez Street and Westerfield Way before eventually ending at Veterans Memorial Park at 1500 Fourth St. The parade will be followed by a celebration with an ice slide, carnival rides, live music and food vendors.

The Parade of Lights & Holiday Festival will take place at 5:45 p.m. with a parade beginning at Palm Drive and Mission Lakes Boulevard in Desert Hot Springs. The holiday festival will follow on Palm Drive and Pierson Boulevard. There will be free carnival rides, pictures with Santa Claus, face painting, cotton candy, live music, food vendors and more. Paws n' Claus will take place 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at The Gardens on El Paseo in Palm Desert. Bring your dogs and/or cats to take photos with Santa Claus. Pets should be leashed, or in light-weight carriers, and be up-to-date on all vaccines. Cost is $15, which includes one 4x6 photo in a holiday folder. Proceeds benefit the Bianca Rae Foundation. The Holiday Craft Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Indio Community Center, 45-871 Clinton St. The event will be hosted by Desert Recreation District and will allow kids (ages 4-12) to make up to four Christmas-themed crafts. The Holiday Sparkle Concert will take place at 7 p.m. at the Palm Canyon Theatre, 538 N. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs.
