Saw X brought the Saw series back in fine style, delivering the best-ever reviews for a Saw movie as it went back in time to tell an untold story from John Kramer's past.

If you missed it at the cinema, Saw X is now available to watch at home so you might just be catching up on the new movie, which is set between Saw and Saw II.

While the timeline might be different, Saw X delivers exactly what you'd expect from a Saw sequel from the gory traps to a classic twist ending that reworks what you thought you knew about the movie.

If you don't fancy a rewatch yet, we're here to help untangle that rapid montage at the end to explain what's really going on in Saw X.

Major spoilers await if you haven't seen the movie yet.

Saw X ending explained

With the help of Amanda and Detective Hoffman (although we don't know that until the credit scene), Kramer locks up Valentina, Mateo, Gabriela and the ringleader Cecilia Pederson in the same room where they carried out their ruse.

Kramer found out their real identities from Diego, the cab driver who took Kramer to the retreat, before putting him in a trap which he actually managed to survive. Valentina and Mateo aren't so lucky and both die during their traps, despite coming really close to completing them.

During the night, Parker Sears – a terminal cancer patient supposedly cured by Cecilia – shows up at the warehouse to demand his money back from Cecilia. Amanda is wary, but Kramer is happy to let Parker watch on as the next trap for Gabriela starts.

Gabriela manages to survive her game, but things soon go south. Parker is actually in on the ruse with Cecilia and he forces Kramer to free her, before locking up Kramer and Amanda in their own traps.

To prove just how hideous she is, Cecilia also breaks Gabriela's neck. If you still needed persuading, Cecilia also locks Carlos – the child whose bike Kramer fixed earlier in the movie – up in the same trap as Kramer when he arrives at the warehouse just to play some football.

The two-person trap is 'bloodboarding' with levers where each person can tip the board to make the other person suffer. Kramer refuses to let Carlos get bloodboarded at all and while that trap is happening, Cecilia and Parker head upstairs to get the money Kramer withdrew from Cecilia's bank accounts.

When they're in the room with the money though, Parker has a thought: who was going to be the other person in the trap with Cecilia? He realises too late though as when Cecilia grabs the (empty) money bag, the room locks and a 10-minute countdown begins.

Kramer always knew that Parker was in on the scam with Cecilia as Diego had told him earlier. He had no way of finding him though, even with Hoffman's help, so Kramer left Cecilia's phone in the room, knowing that she'd find a way to contact Parker, bringing him to them.

Cecilia's trap was never really meant for her. Kramer planned for him and Amanda to be trapped in it once Parker had arrived, but even he didn't see the twist coming with Carlos. When the room locks, the bloodboard trap ends and Kramer frees himself and Carlos.

The office starts to fill with gas, but there's only one hole in the wall for either Cecilia or Parker to stick their head through to survive. Amanda had earlier warned Parker that Cecilia would kill him eventually, and so it comes to pass when Cecilia kills Parker to save herself.

As Kramer, Amanda and Carlos walk away (Carlos now with a massive bag of money), Cecilia is still locked in the room but with her head outside, so she doesn't die. Kramer doesn't seem too worried that she'll come after him though.

Saw X is out now in cinemas and is available to buy or rent in the UK from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and more.
